On the most routine of evenings, in the midst of the most ordinary of dutiful activities, Arthur uttered a novel command to Merlin. Only it didn’t strike him as novel at first, for the natural manner in which it flowed from Arthur’s lips was as if he’d murmured it every day for years. It very nearly passed undetected, but the one word contained within the command stood out like a rare gleaming jewel--one that dropped itself unbidden and cherish-able into Merlin’s lap.
