If there's one thing Lucas is good at it's science. He knows how to analyze data to come to a valid conclusion. So when faced with the unknown, he falls back on what he knows best.
Max knows better then anyone that sometimes what's in your head can't be trusted, so when she starts having feelings that could ruin the best part of her life, she does everything she can to ignore them.
