Summary
Curious was the heart.
A bit of muscle, yes, flowing the blood that kept living things alive. Hardy enough that it was the sole guardian between life and death. Delicate enough that it needed its own cadre of knights to shield it. Romantically, it beat on and on as a testament to how strongly humans care about one another, and want one another — often to the point where it hurt being apart for even a moment. And practically: the measurement of one’s time, however brief, for those that have a finite end.
Curiouser, still, was the heart that beat its first th-thump in...well, since he could remember.

Dream turns to look at the charm dangling from his fingers. It’s white and marshmallow-like, with a spherical head that has a simple face carved into it. X for eyes, and a simple open mouthed grin. There’s a little cape, dark green and clasped together by a makeshift eye of ender. It’s clearly meant to represent some smaller, cuter version of him.
“It’s kind of… derpy.” Dream tilts his head.
George giggles. “Do you want it? I can buy it, if you want. It’s supposed to be good luck.”
He blinks in confusion. “I don’t need luck.”
“Maybe not,” George concedes, “but you don’t have to need something in order to want it. Sometimes it’s just nice to have with you.”
He looks down at the charm, and says nothing.

George had smiled at him then, eyes soft, squeezing his hand gently. “I do,” he answered, “You’re all I dream about.” Dream blushed, and George only giggled, leaning forward to place a gentle kiss on the bridge of his nose where Dream knew that a freckle would form. “Do you dream of me too?”
“All the time,” the Moon God admitted, his thumb tracing circles on the back of the other’s hand, “I dream of seeing you again, of being able to hold you in my arms and kiss you.” He paused, swallowing, “I dream of being able to look at you like this,” and when George blushed he had chuckled quietly, “I never dream about anything else but you.”
