“It's just...” he began, after a moment’s consideration. “Matt. I’m not sure I want to do this one.”
He’d laughed, but Matt could sense whenever Jay was starting to get cold feet for real. The tell was in him twisting his fingers; Bird’s nervous little habit. If they were going to make this work, he needed to throw out the safety float and drag him back on board.
“It’s OK.” Matt clapped him on the shoulder, prodding his chest with the other hand. “Birdie, hey. Look. We’re gonna deal with this. ‘Cause I need you there to be part of the plan, alright? Here’s what we’re gonna do: what if I pretended to be a mannequin?"

Everyone in the audience” — Matt threw out his arms, glancing frantically around — “‘where is that beautiful music coming from! The piano’s alive? Is it haunted?’”
Jay frowned. "No-one can see me?"

Summary
As one starts to get older, one discovers how easy it can be to fall out of touch with even their dearest of friends. The slightest mistake and they could slip between your fingers like sand. When Moomintroll returns home from the island to find Snufkin gone, he decides to leave memories of the valley behind and set out on his own for a while.
Both go along on their separate travels, both to forget, but something between them won't let them stay apart.
