For years Masa had yearned for the love he read about in storybooks, only to realize far too late that what he longed for was nothing more than an unattainable wish. So instead of letting himself be poisoned further, terrified that he would become little more than a ghost if he stayed, he left. Alone and unseen he had left the place he once called home, and he was all the better for it.
Or: Masa is an invisible child who much prefers not to be seen. That starts to change, however, when he wanders into Moominvalley and meets a family eager to prove to him that visible or not, he deserves to be loved.
