When he comes back out, Chas is leaning against the side of the cab, long legs stretched out in front of him, arms folded across his chest. He looks tired, but smiles once he spots John. "There you are," he calls out.
"Here I am," John agrees, walking up to him. "Didn't think I'd run off, did you?"
Chas gives him a look that says, quite clearly: You? Run?

John sighs, pulls off his coat, and throws it over the armchair. Slips off his tie and shoes, and pokes Chas' arm. "Budge up a bit." Chas grumbles about it, but he does, rolling onto his side, leaving just enough room for John to ease in behind him.

"You okay?" Chas says, feeling a little guilty. "Wanna take a break?"
"No, I don't 'wanna take a break'," John mimics, in a particularly unflatteringly approximation of Chas' accent. "I wanna get to the top of the bloody mountain already, so we can start headin' back. Don't know how much more of this..." he pauses, and throws a highly dubious glare at his surroundings. "Wilderness I can take."

“What?” he says, going to put the phone on speaker and preemptively bringing his other hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose. Blinks, as he realizes that instead of a mostly blank screen with John’s name at the center, it’s John’s face he’s looking at, because somehow — by accident, probably — John's managed to stumble onto his phone’s video chatting app.
“Hello to you too, mate,” John says, a little sharp.

Chas gives a warm, amused chuckle and shakes his shoulder again. "C’mon," he says. "I already let you sleep in."
"Oh, let me, did you?" John mumbles, rolling away. “You the ultimate bloody authority on when I get out of bed, now?"
"Well," Chas says, and the mattress shifts. He presses a quick, prickling kiss to the nape of John’s neck. “It is my bed."
John turns over. "So it is," he concedes, and Chas, sitting at the edge of the bed, smiles down at him.
