Summary
“I’ve been thinking a lot about me and Mike,” Will starts again. “And how I- how much I love him.”
Dustin smiles at the admission, nodding more. “And I want to say it. To him. That I love him.” Will gets out, the words feeling awkward in his mouth.
Dustin hums in a knowledgeable way, looking forward to their group of friends further up the beach. “I see. Makes sense. You guys love each other a lot. But what’s making you so anxious about it?”
The tension in Will’s shoulders deflates, and he lets his forehead fall forward onto his bunched up knees, a groan coming out of his mouth. “So many things,” he breathes. “What if we’re too young? What if he’s not ready to say it? What if it’s too soon in our relationship? What if he doesn’t feel the same yet? What if I’m jinxing the whole thing by saying it and we don’t even last past Christmas because I’m silly and overthinking too much-”
“Okay, okay,” Dustin stops him, thankfully. Will refills his lungs as quickly as he stops talking. “Yeah, see this is what I meant by working overtime.”
*A Heartstopper-inspired confession scene; Will has some trouble saying "i love you" to Mike for the first time.

Summary
Will frowned slightly and bent down to pick it up. “What’s this?” he asked, already unfolding it before anyone could answer.
Mike watched Will’s face change in real time. The confusion first, surprise, then color bloomed across his cheeks.
“Oh,” Will said softly.
Dustin immediately leaned in. “Wait, wait, wait. What is it-” He squinted, then gasped loudly. “Holy shit!”
Lucas craned his neck. Max leaned over. Jane squealed so loudly a kid down the hall actually turned to look.
“It’s a love poem!” Jane announced, delighted.
Will tried to fold the paper back up, mortified. “Guys-”
“It says I love you,” Dustin read aloud, absolutely not helping. “Whoever this is, they are down bad.”

Summary
“Don’t do that. Don’t be nice about it. You can be mad. It’s okay.”
“I am mad,” Will said. “But not about her. I’m mad you disappeared. I’m mad you stopped calling. I’m mad you didn’t show up when I invited you to my graduation. I’m mad that I had to hear from Jonathan that you got married. I’m mad you cut all of us off like it didn’t mean anything. But mostly I’m mad that you waited until your daughter was ten years old and missing to let me see you again.”
“I’m sorry.”
Will didn’t answer. The pause dragged too long, but then his voice came, even and low. “I know.”
; Years after trying to outrun the scars of Hawkins, Mike Wheeler is dragged back when his daughter vanishes without a trace. The past isn’t done with him — and neither is the boy he once braved the dark for.

Summary
He remembers, eyes squeezed shut against the swell of nausea and vertigo that claws through him, being not-quite-thirteen, and listening eagerly to Mr. Clarke explain the science behind dreams.
“Dreams,” he’d said, “are often seen as these sacred experiences, something that has to have a deeper meaning. We have centuries of examples of dream interpretation, the art of examining commonalities between different dreams to find a single interpretation.”
“The thing is,” he’d continued, “dreams are just your brain’s way of processing and regurgitating information; a fruit-salad of information, so-to-speak. Sure, it can mean something, but it’s more likely to be a random grab-bag of facts and feelings that you’ve come across in life.”
A fruit-salad of information. Here, in the dark bathroom at a little past three in the morning, Mike breathes carefully, and tries to dissect where the supposed ingredients of his fucked-up dream salad actually came from.

Summary
Will reaches his hand out towards Mike’s face to wipe the ink off, and Mike’s heart falters weakly in his chest, excitement buzzing in his veins because he’s been waiting. Waiting for Will’s touch.
But as quickly as the moment begins, it ends just as fast.
Mike’s breath hitches as Will’s hand stops dead mid-air, frozen in time. He drops his hand back to the table, the smile on his face wavering, and turns back to Holly to start a conversation again. But Mike can see the way his hands are trembling ever so slightly and tries not to let the devastating ache echoing throughout his body swallow him whole.
Or,
Will stops touching Mike, and Mike doesn't know why it hurts so much.Bookmarked by wallowinginthought
