And Ouma knows what he, himself is.
He's determined, he doesn't like sore losers and he especially doesn't like quitting or sitting around if it isn't actually dangerous. (Obviously, unless he's Ladybug because that's his whole job. But he gets to be safe when he's a civilian, thank you.)
And yet,
He gives up on the prospect of breaking his heart today, telling himself "maybe another time."
But he doesn't think another time will ever come if the boy who's holding him earnestly and sincerely continues treating him like he's something worth loving, even if it's terrifying and utterly foreign to think about for the ever so self proclaimed 'villain' Kokichi Ouma.

Kokichi has never been a stranger to Shuichi's observant looks. He knows how suspicious he looks when he comes in a bit too awfully late, usually because of an akuma attack. He knows how he involuntarily slightly tenses up at the subject of ladybug as much as he tries to hide it. Sure, gender of said superhero is unknown so he's moreso not in the light of suspicion, but there's the fact there's always a chance; However, he knows how to get through this.
He is a liar, after all.
