Summary
Ryland Grace would like to be with Tom Ryder in as many ways as possible. Tom Ryder would like to be with Ryland Grace in as many ways as possible. And throughout it all, maybe they'll be able to be better themselves. Because Ryder's running from old coping mechanisms that need to be shelved if he has half the shot of convincing Colt a relationship can work, and Ryland needs to dissect his own feelings about himself and his place in the world.
And through it all, they're completely and irreparably intoxicated with one another.

Being at the opposite end of that equation when it breaks the known barriers of special relativity is a lot harder to deal with.

“I’m….going to Earth.”
The sound of a mug shattering in Grace’s kitchen made Simon grimace from where he sat on the living room couch, staring down at his clasped hands. One of his legs gyrated beneath him, bouncing anxiously--a nervous tic he’d developed from spending time with Grace. His gut felt like it was eating itself alive.
After a short beat of silence, Grace peeked his head around the kitchen entrance, his face paler than Simon had ever seen it.
“....Come again?”Simon is terrified to love, and be loved. He can't bring himself to accept his new reality, thinking it too good to be true. Surely the Eridians actually want to kidnap him and dissect him. Surely this isn't actually a home, but a glorified zoo enclosure/prison cell. Surely the other shoe will drop soon.

Summary
Ryland has been avoiding him.
Not that Simon blames him. It’s one thing to be told that Simon is an experienced killer, it’s another to actually see it in practice.
After a wild Eridian creature attacks the biodome and threatens to break it open, Simon is forced to call on his old Butcher instincts to kill it before it can kill them. Afterwards, however, Ryland won't even look at him, and Simon can't help but fear that it's only a matter of time before Ryland works up the nerve to tell Simon that he can no longer stand being around him, and kicks him out of the biodome.
Then, about a week after the incident, Simon comes home to find that Ryland has prepared an extra special dinner for him. This must be it. His last meal in the biodome before Ryland sends him away forever.
Only, it turns out there may be something else behind Ryland's recent behaviour than what Simon expected...
