Summary
An AU in which Bellamy is a detective who just lost his partner to the serial killer they'd been trying to catch for almost a year and Murphy's a newbie journalist trying to prove he has what it takes to stay on the paper by covering the story, even if he'd rather write about the perils of putting cats on leashes or something equally as death-free. However, with his behavior and insistent questions, Bellamy begins to suspect that maybe the killer is right next to him, playing with his radio, if that's the case, then he should keep Murphy close, to keep an eye on him. Falling for him was just an unfortunate side effect he'd have to stomp down because when the evidence comes in, it looks like he's in love with a killer.

He liked Murphy. "It was a one-time only deal," the guy shouts after him, waving and grinning, and as Louis finds a seat on the bus and falls into it, he can't stop himself from thinking fuck, I hope not.

Louis curved his lips into a crooked grin. "You're not being serious, are you?" He breathed out a scoff. "Look, if we're going to be partners in this race, you really need to loosen up, mate. And I can't have you getting into a strop about every little thing that doesn't go quite right."
Liam frowned. "Who said I would?"
"Well, you full-on cried at me over accidentally knocking you with a football," Louis stated with an arched eyebrow.
"I did not cry," Liam protested.
Louis sent him a roguish look as he crossed his arms. "Liam, was it? Liam Payne?"
Liam tentatively nodded.
"Liam, just follow my lead and we'll definitely win this race."

“You can, you know,” Liam says quietly. “Be with me, that is.” He feels Louis go tense because Liam’s never had the talk with Louis like he’s had with himself but he somehow thinks Louis knows. They haven’t been together like this for so long Liam half-expects Louis to question him and the fact that he doesn’t makes Liam think Louis wants him just as much, even if it’s just for tonight.
