Summary
Rayla was close enough that Callum could reach out and touch her, but he had never felt further away from her. He didn’t know what to do. He was upset with her. Angry with her. She had left him in the night without so much as a warning, let alone a heartfelt goodbye. He had given her his heart and she’d sliced it in two with one of her blades. Then she dropped it on the floor in front of him without even an attempt at stitching the wound, before turning on her heel and leaving him in the dark for two years.
Part of him wanted to hate her.
Just one small part.
But he didn’t. He knew, deep down, he never really had. He didn’t forgive her, but even now, silently standing in her presence, he couldn’t feel anything for her but affection. As much as he, admittedly, sometimes wanted to, he couldn’t stop loving her.
