Summary
Grief and hope aren’t a good combination. They’ve twisted together into something impossible and terrible and despite watching Eddie Munson die in his arms, Dustin has hope.
“The power’s messed up all around town,” Steve’s trying to be logical. He’s trying to approach whatever theory is brewing in Dustin’s head cautiously. He’s been proven wrong so many times—so many times by Dustin even—that he can’t say Dustin is wrong. Will lived. Hopper lived.
Plenty of others didn’t.
“It’s probably nothing.”
Dustin doesn’t argue.

April 1986. Steve tries to help Dustin cope with his grief after the events of season 4.

Summary
They’re both breathless, caught up in the moment is all, and that’s why Steve is looking at him like that: soft and gooey and intent.
Eddie’s never been still in his life. He’s always been a bundle of nerves, a boy made up entirely of chaos, but beneath Steve’s gaze, he finds he can’t move, can’t breathe—afraid to break the spell.
And then Steve kisses him.

Or: Steve kisses Eddie and Eddie panics.

Summary
“Eddie?” Steve breathes.
“Yeah, fuck, hey.”
There are maybe one hundred different things Steve could say to him right now, but all he can think to say is “Your hair?” and Eddie runs a bashful hand across his close cropped head, dropping his eyes to the floor.
There’s a moment—Steve doesn’t know how long—where they just stand facing each other, the first time Steve’s seen him for more than a few minutes in years and he can think of absolutely nothing to say and he should say something really, chief among them what the fuck are you doing here but Eddie, who’s never been one for silences is filling the void with I was fucking balding, man, and I figured I might as well do it on my own terms, you know? When Robin rematerializes beside him, her hand in the crook of his arm.
She says what he couldn’t manage: “Eddie—I didn’t know you knew Noah.”
When she says it, there’s no question in it. It's an accusation.
Why the fuck are you here?

After ten years apart, Steve and Eddie reconnect at a funeral.

Summary
“Honourable Justice Harrington, I have perjured myself on this stand today, and I would like to recant.”
“Dude, what are you—”
“I lied, man. I fibbed. I told a story. I—”
“Alright, okay. I get it.”
“I don’t read, uh. Gay porn for the articles.”
“Okay.”
“I more read it for the, you know.” He scrubs a hand over his face. Wishes he could hide. “Gay porn.”

Summary
Eddie speaks without thinking and it leads to something he never expected, but god does he love the outcome.
***
“I never realized how much room you have back here, man.”
Steve tips his head, looking over at Eddie. “Yeah, it definitely comes in handy.”
“I bet.” Eddie waggles his brows, a salacious smile on his face.
Steve rolls his eyes. “I meant it comes in handy when I’m carting the brats around.”
Eddie laughs, a fond little puff of air. “You’re such a mom, Harrington.”

Summary
“Are you going to leave?” Steve’s back is to him, so Eddie can see the way he tenses up, muscles beneath his plain black shirt bunching up.
It’s not: are you leaving before I pick up Max?
He could be difficult, if he wanted. He could ask Steve to clarify, he could ask Steve if he’s ever planning to leave. He could stand up and just do it, putting them both out of their misery. One day they might be better off for it, even if the hurt is too much to stand right now. Even if it feels impossible.
“Not right now,” Eddie says, which sounds a lot like not without you.
“Okay,” Steve says, which sounds a lot like thank you.
98% of the population disappears. Hawkins becomes a ghost town.
Or: three years after, Steve, Eddie and Max try to carve out a life together.

Summary
Sure, he kind of figured people might make it a big deal. After all, it wasn’t just Sam Owens as their coach talking up how this men’s team for USA Gymnastics could be the ones to break the streak since the Trials — it’s the whole of the gymnastics world, and goddamn if people didn’t love an underdog. It’s only that he’d just also sort of figured it’ll be about all of them: him and Lucas and McKinney and the rest of them. But they’d latched onto him, and now Steve has people tweeting about him and asking if he has a girlfriend or a boyfriend or someone, making memes and TikToks and edits, there’s a fucking timer, apparently, on NBC, or so Erica’s saying there’s gonna be (and historically she can’t be trusted not to lie to Steve’s damn face for fun, so he’ll believe it when he sees it, right), when Finals for the team come around, counting down to his event. The Harrington countdown. And, like, someone called him Clark Kent during the team qualifications? Like! What the fuck. How fuckin’ wild, right? Him. Jesus!
Or: This Steve's job is horse. Also, he's got an unfortunate crush on a middle-aged former rock star.

Summary
There’s this one ASMR channel that Eddie’s absolutely addicted to. There’s no discernible channel title, just two emojis: a baseball glove and the yellow sparkles. Eddie had stumbled across it a while ago in the recommended sidebar, and the channel is incredibly understated–-but wildly popular. Half a million subs with no captions under the videos, no text anywhere really; just a pair of beautiful, adorned hands, and incredible scrapbook work.
Then, Eddie starts to actually read the comments under the videos, and realizes the discourse that's been happening in regards to this scrapbooker: who are they?
And what seems to be most important to the viewers: what gender are they?
All Eddie knows is that the hands are just as beautiful as the art they make. When they strike up a penpalship, things get deeper and more complicated than Eddie could have guessed--and when he unexpectedly falls for the scrapbooker, he knows he's past the point of no return. There's only one thing left to do:
Go on the Hallmark romance movie journey of a lifetime.
