    Summary

Abigail Roberts is a seventeen-year-old prostitute when she first joins the gang. She falls in love with a rough-and-tumble man with dark hair and eyes like coalsmoke, lighting up the dark. At eighteen, she has his child. At nineteen, he abandons her. At twenty, he comes back, but he won’t look her in the eye anymore.

Abigail is a twenty-two-year-old ex-prostitute and outlaw, desperate to build some sort of life for her little boy. The gang’s been on the run since Blackwater. Jack is her whole world. She’s exhausted and stressed out and miserable, and having to see John Marston’s stupid, scarred-up face at camp doesn’t make her feel any better, even though she keeps trying.

(aka an introspective look into Abigail's life, closely following the canon of the game except I turned John's "pathetic wife guy" energy all the way up for self-indulgent and romantic reasons)

    Summary

Life's settled and things are calm now that Micah Bell's been dealt with and Dutch has disappeared. The Marston family has Beecher's Hope and seems that they might close that chapter of their life without qualm. Only there's one question that keeps pestering Abigail and it's high time she addresses it with her husband. A question about a romantic night in Blackwater and the way in which he asked The Question.

    -

“Why’s it you went with a boat?”

Abigail turned around, leaned against the counter and gestured at him with her knife as she asked the question that’d been chasing her thoughts for weeks now.

Across the room, where he stood admiring that danged taxidermy piece of art (by his insistence) that spoiled the good humours of the parlour, John started, whipped his head around to look at her. “What about a boat?” he asked, confusion and wariness rife in the expression. Unexpected questions from her often meant he’d done something what angered her and so, rightly, he had learned to be cautious when they cropped up.

“When you proposed, John,” she shot back. “Why’d you insist on that boat?”
