“I want another kid with you because we’re a team, and you want them.” Eddie tells him. Buck leans into him, dropping his head onto Eddie's shoulder, taking a deep breath. “I’d be content if we could never have any more kids, too,” Eddie continues, “because we’re a team and I love you.”
Buck raises his head, his eyes watering. “I love you, too,” he sniffles. “So much.”
“Oh, Honey,” Eddie’s eyes softened. “Come’ere.”
Or--
Eddie and buck figure out the newest aspect of their life. (Could be read as a stand alone, hypothetically.)

A tear slips down his face, but he’s too caught up in everyone else to notice.
“Josh, you need to…”
“Buck? Buck you need to stay awake for me, your team is 1 minute out, can you stay with me?” The voice gets more urgent, more panicky, “What do you need me to do?”
“You need to-“ A hacking cough escaped him, and great, add that to the list of injuries, “You need to tell Bobby to keep Eddie away. He can’t see me like this, please Josh.”
“Buck-“ His voice is full of sympathy now, and Buck hates it.
“No, Josh, you need to promise me, you need to-“ his eyes are too blurry to ignore the tears now.
He’s stressed, in too much pain to try and catalogue for Hen and Chim, tired, cold, anxious, scared, terrified-

“My husband does the same thing when we’re out together,” says the man.
Eddie’s mind is eerily blank at that.
“Huh?”
“Oh, I just mean the way your husband just took off, mine does the same thing. He gets distracted by something and ditches me!” The man is chuckling slightly to himself.
Husband?
Husband.
Buck?

But now he’s looking at this video, years later; he watches as the camera steadies and zooms in. It’s chaos and it happens in the blink of an eye, but at the center of it the lens settles on the familiar reflective flash of turnouts.
There’s a firefighter on their knees in the mud as rain beats down over the whole scene in steady, drenching sheets.
It’s only when his voice tears through the noise that Eddie realizes he’s looking at Buck.
Eddie finds the video footage of the well collapse; he finds that he has to do something about it.

“You ok superman?”
“The… the waves are getting quite close.” Chris said, voice quiet, not wanting the other children to overhear. His hand remained fisted in the white fabric.
Buck swallowed heavily, nodding. “Do you remember learning about the tide?”
“How the moon pulls at the ocean?”
“Yeah, just like that. Well the tide comes in land twice a day, and it goes out twice a day. This is the second high tide.”
“So… this is normal?”
Buck nodded again, “Very normal.”
Chris hummed, fist loosening. “Promise?”
Buck smiled, offering his pinky finger wordlessly. Chris hooked his own around it, standing taller.
“It’s not that I was scared,” Chris said, “I know you’d save me again. I just - I thought I’d check.”
He turned around, walking away before Buck could argue that he hadn’t saved him last time. Eddie’s gaze burned into his cheek.

Buck asks, "Where is your dad?"
"He's downstairs buying sodas," Christopher replies. He sits down next to Buck and points at the magazine. "Why are you reading Bridal Guide?"
"Oh." Buck flushes a little. It's not like he can explain: I realized I'm in love with your dad and keep accidentally planning a wedding we're never going to have. "It was this or Golf Digest."

“Hey,” Buck greets him without looking up from his screen, “how do you feel about opening a joint bank account together?”
Eddie, who was mid-sip of his juice, chokes and almost spits it across the room. “What?”
“Yeah, I’m thinking it’ll just be easier than, like, transferring each other money every month for rent and the shopping,” Buck continues.
“… Right,” Eddie replies, wary. Bank accounts are a big deal—one of the only things his father taught him. Eddie has only shared a bank account with one other person, and he was married to her.
Well, come to think of it, the situations aren’t that different. Sure, he and Buck aren’t married. But they do live together. Plus, Buck is basically another parent to his son in all the ways that matter. Maybe it does make the most sense.
OR: the five times that Buck and Eddie navigate life of acting like a domestic married couple as roommates without actually being married, and the one time they realise they kinda are.

A voice, barely above the sound of the water:

“Why not? You don’t look out for yourself. Someone’s gotta do it.”
“And you’re doing that how? By marrying me?”
”You—” There’s a pause on Eddie’s end of the line, like he’s just stopped himself from saying something regrettable. “I married you because you’re mine, Buckley.”
“I’m— what?”
“You heard me.”
“We’re best friends, Eddie.” Buck needs the reminder just as badly as Eddie does, to be honest. It's a fantasy and unless he crushes it now, Buck’s going to wind up even more heartbroken. “And you’re straight.”
Eddie just scoffs, “and you’re still mine.”

Eddie takes a step closer and cups Buck’s jaw, tilts his head slightly, pressing a quick kiss above his eye, right where his birthmark is. “See you in a bit,” he says.
Buck stammers for a second, face blushed, “Uh, I—I’ll wait?” he coughs, “Yeah, see you. Bye.”
(Or, five times Eddie kisses Buck’s birthmark in a perfectly friendly way, plus one time he kisses the man himself, and yeah, that isn’t best friend behaviour at all.)
