Summary
Looking back on someone while leaving them isn't much different from seeing them leave, Keith figures out. Being a step ahead of someone in this situation seems the same as being a step behind. You're left standing alone either way.
(or: Keith's terrible luck with leaving and being left behind)

Summary
“Oh, of course you did. Of course you’d want to kill me the second you see me alive after two years. What else did I expect? A welcome kiss? I missed you, maybe? So foolish of me.”
“Incredibly foolish of you,” Lance says, and kisses him.

Summary
Here are some things he remembers: He is Keith Kogane, black paladin and leader of Voltron. He’s half-Galra, his mother is Krolia, and his father died in a fire. Shiro is his brother. He has lived all of his life, up until seven years ago, on Earth. He always knows what to do. You reach a dead end, you turn around, try something else.
“Keith?”
Lance is his dead end.

Summary
“Why did you leave?”
Keith flinches. His shoulders have gotten broader, Lance notices, and his jacket sits kind of weird on them now. There's a strand of hair covering his eye and Lance wants to tuck it away. “Are you talking about Voltron or the Garrison?”
Lance breathes in. Breathes out. Ebb and flow. “I’m talking about me.”

Summary
“Wait, where are you going?”
Right, Keith thinks. Exactly two years on a stupid space whale, and Lance is still the same. Exactly seven hundred and thirty days on a stupid space whale, and Lance still looks at him with the same sad blue eyes and the same hurt expression he wore when Keith left the team.
“Acxa saved our skin, I’m not gonna leave her behind,” he says and turns away and thinks there’s no way to be sure. “I’ll meet up with you guys soon.” And he walks, and pretends Lance’s eyes aren’t burning into the back of his skull.
Keith is good at pretending.
