“Let me take you out,” Eddie interrupts him mid-sentence. “On a date.”
He clarifies it so easily, so simply, that Buck's heart actually comes to a stop.
“Wh–what?” Buck asks. He’s searching. He’s looking for any sign on Eddie's face that this is a joke, that he's being made fun of, or that it’s some kind of 'best friend' prank. But Eddie’s face is just... serious. His eyes are warm and gentle and earnest and—Eddie just asked him out on a date.
“You go on all these dates, Buck. With all these people and... and none of them treat you right. I mean, that guy gave you a black eye!” Eddie’s voice hitches, and he starts to ramble, his hands moving restlessly. “Just—let me show you. Let me show you how you deserve to be treated.”
