Jonnie knows he's easy pickings. He's the smallest guy in the whole 7th grade and nobody's dumb enough on the planet to stick up for him. In and out of school he plays the role of a punching bag, but that's just what life is for him so he sucks it up and keeps on going.
Jimmy wants to be just like his dad and look out for the little guy. He may not be the smartest guy around but his dad says he's got a lot of heart and he thinks he could probably work with that.
Or, Jimmy and Jonnie meet in seventh grade. Through a cascade of events that neither of them could've ever predicted, this leads them to join the mafia five and a half years later.
