Caitlyn sighed, biting her lip. “Do you remember our first kiss?” she asked, as if it were even a question. Of course Vi remembered. “When you pleaded with me not to change?”
“I don’t want to talk about this. Let’s just go back to bed—”
“We can’t keep avoiding this forever!”
“But we’re together now, Cait! What’s done is done. Let’s just– just move past this.” Vi could feel the beginnings of tears pricking at her eyes, that all-too-familiar lump in her throat. “Why can’t I just move past this?”
Caitlyn’s palm came up to brush against her cheek, and against all better judgment Vi leaned into her touch—that same touch which had guided her out of the darkness so many times, and which now kept her teetering on the precipice between heaven and hell.
The apology scene we deserved.
