“I have to leave, you know,” Jinx murmurs into her arm, barely audible between the constant drizzle of the water. The hot lump in his throat flares again, then—he knows this, he’s always known this, that she will always be leaving; no place will ever be good enough for her. He just wished—he wanted—he needed more time. Needed to fully inhale all this false sense of domesticity before it slips between his fingers and disappears over the horizon on a sunny day.
