He would watch as one of The Dead latched onto their arms, mouth open and salivating. He would watch as The Dead would pull at them and sink their teeth into flesh. He would watch as the skin would simply peel off the person’s body, so easily. He would watch as a group of them would descend on the person. He would watch until the screaming died down until the street was once again silent. The Dead clung to that body until there was nothing left. Sometimes they would leave the body and the person would wake up Dead. And then he would shut the curtains.

Arisu needs to get out of the house, he needs to get out of his head, and he needs to get out of the habit of going to that damned coffee shop near the campus. Arisu is let out of the hospital, and decides that its time he goes to college, but how can he focus when his dreams have been feeling too real, and his asshole neighbour is suddenly too familiar?
"Have we met before?" Arisu asks the man, his eyes narrowed. Images flash in his mind — but it's all like before, that immediate strike of red, the blood sliding down his skin, the same harsh betrayal pounding in his heart. But now he can feel a soft press of lips to his jaw.
