“Su-ho? Where are you? Is Young-yi with you?” Halmeoni’s voice floods through the speaker, worried, frazzled; but still soft. Familiar. Home.
He opens his mouth. He meant to answer her. He meant to lie—meant to say they were fine, that they were at Si-eun’s having a sleepover, that everything was fine. Normal.
But the words won’t come.
“Si-eun—Si-eun is—” His voice crumbles. Splits apart. His breath hitches sharp, his throat clamps around the words.
“Your friend Si-eun? What’s the matter with him, Su-ho-ya?”
“He’s hurt,” Su-ho chokes out. “He’s—he’s really hurt, halmeoni.” His lips tremble. His eyes sting, tears threatening to fall even though he’s fought so hard not to. “Something bad happened and he’s—it’s bad. Young-yi said…said there’s bleeding in his brain.”
There’s a sharp inhale on the other end. “Oh my… oh, my boy.” Her voice turns soft. Shocked. “Is… is he going to be okay?”
It’s just a question. But it shatters him.
“I don’t know,” he whispers, the dam finally breaking.

Sieun’s eyes widen, and he stares at the door, completely frozen. He feels a horrifying flush creep up his neck as his mind plays the scene over and over again.
His heart skips a beat.
What did he just call me?
Suho randomly starts calling Sieun all sorts of endearments, which makes Sieun a flustered and confused mess. Surely, Suho, his best friend, calling him baby is normal, right?

(But then, Suho lets out a shaky exhale, as if he’s having some sort of internal battle with himself. He gives Sieun a smile, and then he says it again.
“There you go, doll.”
He walks away after that.
“Don’t–” Sieun’s about to protest at the name, but he stops himself because he’s noticed how Suho glanced back at him. Like he’s pretty. Like he can’t take his eyes off him. And he keeps quiet after that, following Suho into the kitchen, dazed.
Doll.
Sieun’s heart pounds, and he shakes his head. There must be something wrong with him.)
