Summary
A world free from the chains of dark magic; a hypothetical scenario, a theory of an impossible utopia. Callum fears that the darkness within him is what constructs his entire being, and with that he imagines that a world without him might bring about that impossible utopia. Or something very close to it.
Soren was never one for perfection, anyhow.

Summary
Naruto was never truly welcome in Konoha, after all. Sasuke simply struggled to survive, nurturing his hatred for the one person who seemed responsible for his parents' deaths and the massacre of his clan. Naruto envied Sasuke for having a reason to hate; all he had —as he always had, for as long as he could remember— was an emptiness in his chest. He didn't understand, didn't understand why the villagers despised him so utterly, as if he were a monster.
Until he finally understood, and not only him, Sasuke understood that he had been a pawn his entire life, and pawns —most of the time, if not always— are disposable and useless.
Both are trying to survive in a world that turned its back on them at a young age. Because sometimes, in the absence of hope, the Will of Fire, the flame, the spark, simply goes out.
And with that, darkness begins to embrace their souls.
"Welcome to hell, boys. At least you're not alone here."

Summary
Kakashi's duty to Konoha commanded him to look away from the skinny, bruised child sniffling behind a low wall, to move on, to keep his distance. His duty to his late sensei... not so much.
The last Hatake was so tired of looking away.

Summary
No child should cry silently. It means they know no one is coming to help them.
“Umino Iruka.”
“Hmm?”
“My name,” the Chuunin’s cheeks were pinked, his mouth crooked to the side. “I apologize for taking him without any warning, but I was just – I delivered paperwork for Sandaime-sama, the other week, and I found him crying.” He hugged Naruto, setting the book down. “There were no aides around, no staff members on hand, and he was crying silently.” Umino turned his head, his eyes closing as he pressed his mouth to Naruto’s temple. It was soft and fond, parental, and Kakashi’s heart thudded. “Children do not cry silently unless they know there is no attention coming, Hatake-san.”
He had done that, once upon a time. After his father’s burial, when there had been no one to hear him. No one to listen.

Summary
Kakashi Hatake had always maintained a careful distance from the son of his late mentor. The delicate balance of space and hidden supervision has not been easy, but he has managed for eight years, trusting that this detachment was for the better.
It’s when he returns from a long mission, and is hesitantly informed that Naruto Uzumaki has been removed from the orphanage and now living alone, that Kakashi reevaluates.
Kakashi is not father material. Years on the battlefield has left his sanity questionable at best, he is hardly qualified to take care of himself, nor is he worthy to cradle the lasting remnants of Minato and Kushina in his bloodied hands. He is considerably the worst option.
But he may be the only one, and Kakashi wagers a subpar father who tries is better than nothing at all.

“…Hatake?”
“Call me Dad.”
