    "The people are fools!" Denethor whirled around, his eyes bright with a frantic, desperate light. "You are my son. My heir. The blood of Westernesse is pure in you. You were taught that the word of the Steward is law. Do you deny your blood? Do you deny your father?"

    Boromir flinched. The weight of his upbringing was a physical thing, a mountain of expectation he had climbed every day of his life. Denethor had shaped him, molded him into the shield of Gondor, and for forty years, Boromir had never known a world where his father’s word was not the absolute truth.

    "I do not deny you, Father," Boromir whispered.

    "Then prove it." Denethor stepped forward, placing a tray into Boromir’s shaking hands. On it sat a delicate porcelain pot and a single cup. The steam rising from it smelled faintly of mountain herbs and something sharper,something bitter. "The 'King' is weary from his paperwork. He sits in his solar, vulnerable. Bring him this tea. Let the line of Stewards be restored before the sun sets."
