If Spencer had been any less prepared to keep up an act, he might have audibly squeaked at that.

"You…" Spencer hissed, his voice trembling as his eyes snapped back open to glare up at Aaron. The fury in his expression was genuine, a stubborn anchor to reality while his nervous system melted down around him. "Don't... don't look at me like that."
"Like what?" Aaron murmured, his voice a deep, steady rumble that vibrated right against Spencer's skin.
"Like you're... like this actually means something to you," Spencer choked out, his fingers clutching at the bedsheets, knuckles turning white.

Months into their friends with benefits arrangement, Spencer wonders if things will ever progress into relationship territory. Aaron is emotionally repressed and handles the situation by stone-walling Spencer. They argue for days and eventually Aaron pleas for forgiveness and offers to at least give Spencer one more night of feeling good.
