Summary
Blood.
That’s the first thing that hits Rei when he steps through the door. The intense smell of blood- horribly familiar, and yet out of place. He’s never killed a soul in his apartment. The coppery scent of fresh blood shouldn’t be filling the air.
And yet, it’s not the blood that draws his attention the most.
Feathered wings unfurl in front of him. A pure untainted white, if not for the one wing clawed an ugly red.
And one Akai Shuuichi looks up at him with a tired smile.
The supernatural has never been Rei's area of expertise. He can't say he's fond of Akai dragging him into it.

Summary
Rei feels more resigned than relieved. No matter what path he chose, he would’ve been a traitor. So he could argue that determinism absolves him, but his feelings stay as muddled as ever.
He should really feel guilty.
His eyes close.
The executives aiming for world domination are all dead- his creators, even if they never saw him as anything but cannon fodder. Rei isn't quite sure how to feel about that.
...Even as his minions run around in glee on their little plush legs.

Summary
Rei knows he’s in love with Akai. It’s more a clinical assessment than anything else, a bias he needs to be aware of in order to address.
And Akai, in turn, clearly feels the same way. He’s at least fond enough of Rei to invite him out on a Christmas date, and comfortable enough with him to joke about marriage.
But it doesn’t matter that their affection is mutual.
Because Rei’s true lover is Japan.
And there’s no place for Akai if Rei wants to keep serving it.
It’s not so simple for a spy to date a foreign agent.

Summary
Rei slams a fist onto his throne’s armrest, and Hiro winces a little. “What in the world is Akai Shuuichi doing here?!”
“Competing?”
“How?”
“I mean,” says Hiro, and flashes Rei another grin, “He applied?”
“What do you mean, he applied?!”
Rei may have spent years travelling with the hero’s party- both to defeat the lich Karasuma, and to bring Hiro back from the dead. But none of it matters, not one bit. When it comes to Akai Shuuichi, Rei still has no forgiveness in his heart.
So he’s not about to let the man swan in and win his hand in marriage.

Summary
“It must’ve been such a beautiful sight,” muses Bourbon, pressing the gun into the dead man’s suit. “Watching Akai Shuuichi himself give up, give in, his life draining away... burning yourself in his eyes as the last thing he ever sees…” His sigh is filled with regret. “So wasted on a woman who didn’t even know him.”
Great. Hidemi hoped - perhaps naively - that Bourbon would be one of the less insane high-ranked operatives. Evidently, that’s not the case.
Bourbon is completely deranged.
The worst part of infiltrating the Organization, in Hidemi's humble opinion, is dealing with all the operatives who have a few screws loose.

Summary
“Kazami,” muses Rei, “Good looks aren’t enough to make up for a lack of effort, wouldn’t you say?”
On Valentine’s Day, Akai gives him a cheap chocolate bar. Coming from anyone else, Rei wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
It’s Akai though. Not just anyone.
And Rei wouldn’t put it past the man to confess in such an insulting way.

Summary
Half of him wishes Akai hadn’t been so clear. Wishes that Rei could still read into Akai’s soft smiles, his light touches, the way he invites him out to dinner and lets him settle in his arms.
But Akai had. He gripped Rei tight by the shoulders, pushed him back, and told him in no uncertain terms- Furuya-kun, I’d like to be friends this time.
So Rei won’t humiliate himself any further by reading into things that just aren’t there.
Not again.
Things would be far, far easier if Rei didn’t still miserably have feelings for a man who’s clearly moved on.

Summary
Shuuichi can’t be killed so easily.
If he ever said that to Furuya, he would probably laugh at him, furious, and call him arrogant with a scathing tongue. But Shuuichi means it quite literally.
It’s difficult to kill a man who won’t even die from a bullet to the head.
But when Furuya points a pistol at his head, and Shuuichi stares back up at him, smiling ever-so-slightly, and waits-
He knows that Furuya can’t kill him, logically. But he can’t help but think, in one dazzlingly illogical moment of indulgence-
If anyone could kill him, it would be Furuya.
Furuya kills Shuuichi, but he recovers, just as always. But no one knows he’s alive this time, not anymore.
And so Shuuichi leaves. On an aimless journey, to nowhere at all.

Summary
“So,” says Rei, smile perfectly sunny, “Obviously, I’ve decided to trick Akai into a love comedy.”
“What do you mean, obviously?” Shinichi demands, fully incredulous. “If you wanna keep Akai-san happy, why don’t you just like- go on more dates? Say you love him?”
“Shinichi-kun,” Rei says with a small laugh. “I wouldn’t be doing this if I could tell Akai I loved him so easily.”
“Haven’t you been dating for years?”
Akai mentions, out of the blue, that he’s worried they might not have a future together. And while Rei may succeed in dismissing Akai’s ridiculous concerns easily enough-
Rei may or may not still panic, just a bit.

Summary
Rei has never been a flower person- he’s never really seen the appeal. What was the point in a gift destined for the garbage bin in two weeks?
But when he comes home from work one day, when he sees Shuuichi working in their garden, hydrangeas blooming in a beautiful backdrop behind him-
He suddenly understands exactly why people might want to give their lover flowers.

Summary
Shuuichi sighs, deep and long-suffering, and Bourbon chuckles into his back in response.
“Stop pretending you regret it every time you sleep with me,” Bourbon says. “If you really did, you’d stop doing it.”
And Shuuichi has to hold back a grimace, because Bourbon has hit the nail on the head. He really should stop.
But he’s not stupid enough to delude himself into thinking he will.
It would be a lie to claim Shuuichi hasn’t ever wondered if Bourbon had Shuuichi’s name on his skin. Bourbon is always so certain that Shuuichi still loves him, and no matter how true it may unfortunately be, Shuuichi doesn’t think he’s showing it.
But Shuuichi is an FBI agent, and Bourbon is the criminal who blew his cover.
(There’s always only been one way their story could ever end, and they both know it.)

Summary
“Marry me, Furuya-kun,” Akai says, and Rei chokes on thin air.
“Are you drunk?”
“I’m perfectly sober,” Akai insists, but that’s not possible. Even Akai can’t be this utterly insane.
“In case you’ve somehow failed to realize,” Rei says, voice flat, “We aren’t dating.”
“Ah, but we’re in love,” Akai says, and Rei chokes on thin air for the second time that night. “And I’d like a spousal visa.”
Akai wants to marry him, which is an utterly ridiculous idea. But it’s a miracle that both of them have survived for as long as they have, and it’s true that he does like Akai, as unfortunate as it is. There’s no reason to say no.
(Even if he doesn’t quite want Akai to inevitably divorce him.)

Summary
“I do wish Furuya-kun used a poison with an easy antidote. Arsenic, perhaps. I can’t drink cyanide.”
Conan stares. “But you’d drink arsenic?”
“It is tea that Furuya-kun brewed for me,” Shuuichi points out reasonably. “It’s quite unfortunate to pour it down the drain. But I suppose I have to.”
“Because it’s not arsenic,” Conan says, voice a little blank.
“Because it’s not arsenic,” Shuuichi says with a nod.
Furuya has attempted to murder Shuuichi quite a few times. That may be part of the reason why Shuuichi doesn’t quite care.

Summary
Yuuma may love the idea, but the last thing Yonaga wants is to become dungeon-touched. Why should he destroy his body for the sake of an uncaring public? He held no illusions about his general attractiveness, but he still put a decent amount of effort into his appearance. That would all be pointless if he started growing leather hide or scaled skin.
But the so-called dungeon's curse forms from desire, and when Yuuma falls, unmoving, towards an endless abyss, a single want overwhelms his mind-
He needs the power to save Yuuma.

Alba doesn't know what he was expecting when Tensuke called them over for a talk. But he does know he wasn't expecting the adorable, fluffy child in Tensuke's lap. And he especially wasn't expecting that child to be a monster.

Summary
Yonaga gifts Yuuma a grand bouquet of flowers, and immediately regrets it. Who wouldn’t be confused at receiving a bouquet of flowers from his coworker out of nowhere? This is stupid. Yonaga is stupid.
(But as it turns out, gifting the bouquet was the smartest decision he had made in months.)

Summary
“Shall we take a bath together, Yonaga-san?” asks Yuuma, late one night.
And while Yonaga has never been the biggest fan of baths, he doesn’t have the heart to say no.
