Summary
That day at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Alex comes across the very same Prince Henry who just dismissed him having a panic attack in a bathroom. The choice Alex makes then has ripple effects neither of them could have ever expected. What's the story like, when they actually are friends all along?
“So, you’re going back to England tonight, and you’ll spend the next three days pretending you two are the closest and best of friends until we can put this mess behind us.”
And there are reasons he hasn’t told anybody this, good reasons, even though he’s sure June and Nora saw through him ages ago. Faced with his mom’s disappointment, though, and with the realization that the entire world apparently thinks he hates Henry and would willingly shove him into a fucking cake, he can’t stay quiet.
“But we are friends,” he says, vehement and serious. “We have been for years. He’s—he’s probably my best friend, actually, along with Nora.”

Henry had been very pleased to discover that Alex and Nora were also a shoeless household, but he’d stared at the SHOES OFF, PANTS OPTIONAL mat at their door for longer than strictly advised because, well. Pants means something different where he’s from, all right, and Alex had been standing right there and the corresponding visual was not—well it wasn’t—Henry was not equipped to deal with it at the moment. Or ever, really, for that matter.

Alex raced through the rest of the crossword, a fairly simple one even for a Tuesday. There was a Jane Austen clue that might have stumped him a few weeks ago, but he'd borrowed June's copy of Persuasion last time he stayed overnight at her place, so he'd have something to read on his longer commute to work that day.

Summary
Alex looks up at the wall of cheese in front of him, wide-eyed and overwhelmed.
“Excuse me,” a polite voice next to him says, all posh and fancy. The owner of that voice could probably tell the difference between brie and camembert without needing to read the label. “You're in front of the Manchego.”
Alex glances to his left, to match a face to the accent. It's a very nice accent, and an even nicer face, framed by dark blonde hair that swoops perfectly over his left brow.
Hot Cheese Guy has obviously come straight from work, some kind of office job judging by his tie and button-up, but he’s shed a layer of uptight rigidity somewhere along his commute. The top button is undone, the tie knot loosened around his Adam's apple, and his cufflinks removed so he could roll his sleeves. He looks professional, but relaxed, and Alex is fucking into it.
He sneaks a look at the contents of Hot Cheese Guy’s basket. He's got chorizo wrapped in paper from the in-store deli, cage-free eggs, this rustic olive-riddled sourdough that looks delicious, and what appears to be artisan dog food, full of vegetables and bone broth.
