All that mattered was that he set up everything before Wei Ying arrived, so as not to raise his suspicions. So Lan Wangji started walking first the premises of the grounds around his home, activating long ago set up wards against intruders and spells for protection. Once he was satisfied he made his way into his home. There were five points that would need to be activated, one on the side with each cardinal point and the final one on the front door, to close the array. Once his Wei Ying steps over the threshold and he activates that last point, the array will be complete and closed. His Treasure will not be able to leave the house ever again without Lan Wangji's sole permission. The dragon in him purred at that thought.
The trap was set and ready, waiting to spring closed around an unsuspecting and trusting Wei Ying.
