“Are you ready to come home yet?”
Of all of the things about this scene, those words throw him for the biggest loop. Alastor ceases fidgeting for a moment, eyes drawn to the stern set of Lucifer’s jaw. He’s wearing leather armor, strong, but supple enough for riding long distances and close quarters. Alastor has no idea why he is here.
“Perhaps it has escaped your notice, but I’m quite busy at the moment.”
His voice is a little rough from overuse. Vox hasn’t made him scream like he seems so fond of promising, but Alastor is quite used to talking to cover pain. His throat is scratchy and tight. And Lucifer…
Lucifer is on the table now.
He crawls up- braces his knees on either side of Alastor’s ribs and hovers there. He hisses through his teeth:
“Liar.”

Why?
Lucifer cannot stop the word from echoing around his skull. It clatters against every vertebrae on its way down his spine until it settles, heavy and cold, somewhere in between his hips.
The sun is falling: it presses greedy hands up against the stained glass windows. The light fractures in, and pointed claws of red and gold and violet close around Alastor’s shoulders- they fold into the fabric of his habit and something in Lucifer’s chest curls tight and angry with envy. Lucifer shifts, feels the way his knees ache from hours on horseback, the familiar tightness in his back. Alastor's eyes have fallen closed, and the hand holding the instrument steady flexes against the wood. Lucifer has seen those hands wield steel and clutch at the pale skin of his own thighs until they bruise. A low, simmering heat spreads across his bones, arousal and dread mixing in his gut until his cock twitches.

“Let me see,” Alastor demands and though there is certainly a question tucked into the twitch of Lucifer's mouth, he does not move as Alastor lets go of his wrist to reach for the laces of his shirt.
He pulls the ties free, and it feels like stripping himself rather than Lucifer. He undoes the knot at Lucifer’s collarbone, and it's as good as slipping a dagger beneath his ribs. Being seen, and being found wanting is one thing, but being found, and being seen wanting? That is the realm of helpless nightmares.
Or; Wrinkle went to Medieval Times and then we had to be Radioapple about it.

Lucifer lifts his head and blearily looks around the room. A part of him must still be asleep because he’s pretty sure he doesn’t have a fireplace in his room. Or the skeleton of some kind of creature on the wall. And a...a tree? Several trees? Are those fireflies?
He stares at the floating little dots of light, and the misty bayou beyond them, then turns and squints at the other side of the room, where there's a wallpapered wall and dark-wood floors. He turns his head again, to the moss-laden trees, cattails, and glowing bugs, and then looks down at the red comforter he's burrowed in.

Alastor has been the conductor of the orchestra for years, youngest ever to hold the position, thank you kindly. When the Board pushes for an open audition, he was prepared for the tone-deaf clout chasers to waste his time.
He was not prepared for Lucifer, the man who ruined his mid-morning coffee run, to reignite the fire in his heart that once drove him to compose. He was not expecting the return of the muse he lost years ago to be accompanied by violin concertos and dazzling sapphire eyes.And Lucifer? He just needed to get out of his newly-leased divorcee pad and figured the old violin he found amidst the boxed up ruins of his marriage was better than pickleball.
