Summary
“The first time I promised to take care of you, we were children on a rotting dock. The last time, men who had kept every promise”.
Choi Seungcheol is ten years old when he promises to take care of Yoon Jeonghan, nine, on a dock that smells of dead fish and desperation.
That promise becomes an anchor for thirty-five years: from Jeju to Busan, to the distant hope of Seoul. It's kept with calloused hands, endless jobs, and hours stolen from sleep.
Or: It's 1950 and two boys who had nothing but each other. And, against hunger, poverty, and a world that told them they didn't deserve to dream, that was enough to build everything: a family, a life, a future.

Summary
Seungcheol comes back to Jeonghan every December and rewires his brain on a more than chemical level. Plugs him back to life, rearranges his worldview, reassembles his tired soul.
He also leaves him every year, unknowingly stealing a bigger piece of Jeonghan's heart each time, forgetting to pick up the fragments of his own presence from their tarnished hometown.
But if it's okay with Seungcheol, it's okay with Jeonghan too. It has to be.

Summary
“I brought this for you.”
“Oh?”
Jeonghan tilts his head, staring at the offered gift in the little girl’s hand. He waits a beat, then snatches it from her hand. She giggles as he examines the onion, turning it over before holding it out close to his eyes.
“Purple…” Jeonghan exaggeratedly wrinkles his nose and cocks an eyebrow. “You know I like sweet vidalia better.”
The little girl’s face falls and, for a split second, Jeonghan worries that he’s taken it too far.
But there’s no such thing as too far when you’re the Grinch.

Summary
A gentle nudge of fingers against his own, not urging or demanding. Hands that betray all the luxurious frippery that he owns.
A laborer’s hands. The hands of a servant.
Jeonghan exhales softly as he looks upon Seungcheol properly. The breeze ruffles through the alpha’s hair. Seungcheol eases into a smile, warm and inviting; his eyes seem impossibly fond, open and attentive.
Perhaps he truly is a fool in love.

Summary
Seungcheol leans in hesitantly before he presses his mouth to the curve of Jeonghan’s collarbones.
He closes his eyes, inhales.
God he smells good.
Like the warm heat of summer, like coconut and lying on the beach and when he gasps into Seungcheol's neck, orange blossoms. Dizzying. Delicious.
