“Have you ever been in love?”
George lets out a short breath. “No.”
Dream nods contemplatively, and George can feel his eyes on him.
“That’s a shame,” Dream replies quietly.
They’re silent for a while before George finally speaks up again, voice barely above a whisper.
“I think I’d like to fall in love though. At least once.”

George falls in love with a strange boy in a strange country in the summer of 1967. As time passes by each other's side, it becomes all too clear that their small town in Virginia is more of a cage than a home, and George wants out.

Dream snorted. "Are you serious? I bet someone would pay thousands for that painting over there."
"That piece doesn't really have a monetary value, especially because—" Dream stopped him with a hand on his arm.
"That was a compliment." He didn't move his hand.
"Okay. Um…"
Dream tried for an encouraging smile, but it looked out of place on his face. "You say thanks, I say you're welcome, I ask meaningless questions about your family—you don't do this too often, do you?"
Yeah, right. "Not really, no. Thank you for the compliment."
George mostly keeps to himself and spends his time painting, until one day a peculiar neighbor with purple hair shows up with his mail. After that, it's only a matter of time until George finally gets the hang of actually having a life.

There are a lot of things George hates about the new barista, Dream:
1. He sucks at brewing espresso.
2. He's, like, distractingly hot, in the way that makes George want to slam his head into the espresso machine.
