"I hate you," Sunny whispers into his skin, holding onto him like he's afraid he'll disappear if he lets go. "I hate you so much."
Basil's tears cascade down the side of his face as his chest heaves from the effort of trying to inhale enough oxygen into his lungs, but he smiles anyway, a weak, fragile thing, tinged with sorrow.
"I know, Sunny," Basil whispers back, just as quietly, but more tenderly. He wants to cradle the other's face in his hands and hold him, tell him that everything is going to be okay. He doesn't. "So that's why I should be p-punished, shouldn't I?"

Or: In place of Kel, Basil is the one who knocks on Sunny's door everyday, who rather than secluding himself away for years, decides to take his grief and frustration out on Basil instead; and Basil, desperate not to be left alone again, endures it all with a smile.

To say Valentine's Day was painful for Basil was an understatement.
This is only multiplied when your pseudo-adoptive mom starts dating one of your older friends, making him your pseudo-adopted dad. (Stepdad?)
Add on the object of his love being taken, and you have one very, very unfortunate day for a certain flower boy.
