To add insult to Ekko’s mortifying injury, rose petals sat arranged in a heart in the middle of the mattress, and he was pretty sure that was a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket with two glasses on the desk in the back corner.

    She hummed, and Ekko couldn’t read the tone. Somewhere between surprise and dissatisfaction.
