Work Text:
Time had passed and everyone was much older now. Phoenix's modest criminal defense firm was anything but, yet the man continued to act as though he could only afford a shack.
Of course, he wasn't actually living in a shack.
His husband would not even look at a shack. Phoenix had grumbled, “Miles, do we really need to buy a house in LA? Isn't a condo enough?”
It was after Trucy got married that they finally settled on a house, Edgeworth finally convincing Phoenix that having a place large enough to host everybody was important.
“What do you mean everybody? There's hardly anybody, it's just us. Well, there’s Trucy and Maya and Athena. I guess Apollo swings around sometimes too.”
Edgeworth frowned. "And Trucy's husband, and you can't predict the future, Phoenix. Maya might bring someone around, someone else might have children. It's time for a decently sized house."
"So what, we're everyone's grandparents?"
"Considering that you're already everyone's dad, yes. Yes, I think that's the next logical step."
Phoenix shrugged. There was no sense in arguing with that logic. So they bought a five bedroom house in LA, the most expensive purchase that Phoenix has had the pleasure of making.
A year passed quickly. People came and went and Phoenix saw the value in having a big house. Edgeworth was right, it really did give everyone a place to stay. Anytime Trucy was in town, she ran up and down the stairs exploring every nook and cranny.
Her husband grinned following her as she made her discoveries. "Daddy, I see you changed the curtains in the guest bedroom."
"That was your other father."
"But these are blue."
"Okay, you got me."
It was the second year after owning the house that Phoenix really felt like it was his home. He had planted some flowers outside in the garden that Pess had not dug up. He had finally fixed the broken piano and started playing again much to Edgeworth's dismay.
It didn't feel so big anymore.
It was during that time that Trucy's tour was ending. She was finally moving back to LA. to start a more permanent show in the city. Until she found somewhere to stay, she and her husband were planning on staying with Phoenix.
Phoenix could not be more ecstatic.
Edgeworth was delighted and reassured them that of course they were welcome. "We got this house exactly for this reason. You can stay as long as you like, you're family. There's really no reason for you to consider moving out."
It was about a week after they had gotten settled into a first floor bedroom (complete with its own bathroom, my Edgeworth knew how to pick a house) that Trucy had called a family meeting. Her husband sat on one end of the couch, his hand covering his mouth. Phoenix sat in the middle, and Edgeworth was on the other side.
Phoenix had a bad feeling about this. What if Trucy had already found a place to live? What if she decided she wanted to leave? What if she was leaving the country? Forever?
As his thoughts continued, he felt a hand on his back snapping him out of it. Edgeworth gave him a look, one that clearly said, “Stop worrying about it, I'm sure it's fine.”
Trucy began. "So I wanted to tell all of you this at the same time. Well, I guess one of you already knows. Erm." She paused and looked directly at Phoenix. "I'm pregnant."
Phoenix's jaw dropped, his body processing the information faster than his brain. Edgeworth had already managed to say congratulations before Phoenix could even stand.
Pregnant? His daughter was pregnant? That meant she was having a baby.
That meant...
He was going to be a grandfather.
Phoenix started crying.
Edgeworth, Trucy, and her husband all looked concerned.
Phoenix got up and gave his daughter a big hug, his nose running. "I'm so happy!" Phoenix Wright was a blubbering mess.
Edgeworth sighed in relief patting Phoenix on the back.
It was only after Phoenix had calmed down that he started making sense. "You're going to have a baby. Gosh, we have to prepare. We need baby gates."
Edgeworth chuckled. "Now don't jump the gun that fast. We have time."
"But Miles, we have to tell everyone!"
Trucy giggled. "I'll leave that to you, Daddy."
Phoenix Wright was on a mission, to let everyone know that he was going to be a grandfather, and quite frankly he was going to be the best granddad ever.
