Okay, Taehyung can actually vaguely remember thinking about how much this is a bad idea and he could seriously kill himself by slipping. But what he can't remember is how he got his thoughts to change and actually think that this is an 'okay' idea.
Glancing between the cat just 3 more feet away from him - watching him with its cute fluffy paws pressing on the side of the balcony facing him - and down the ground that is meters away from him, Taehyung feels himself gulp and almost choke.
He tightens his hold on the slender tube running down the middle of the wall separating his and his neighbors' balcony, that... he's currently trying to cross... to pet and play with a cat.
He has not even spent a day in his new apartment, yet here he is, about to fall down while his furniture and boxes of clothes lay scattered inside messily.
Just half an hour ago he was his busiest, unpacking and organizing his things when he heard a soft meow from his neighbor's balcony and he pretty much couldn't take his eyes off the cute creature since then. He wanted to play with the cat and his love for animals, in its strongest state, decided to suggest, "hey why don’t we cross the balcony and pet the cat real quick before the owner takes it back in and then cross right back, piece of cake, yeah?"
In which, observing his current state, he agreed to. Wonderful.
Taehyung takes a deep breath and tries not to press the heel of his feet too much on the small edge protruding from the brick wall of the complex, cold and hard on his sweating back. He looks up on the cloudy sky and sighs. This is it, this is the way he meets his end. Rather lame, yes, nothing of the 'saving Jimin from a bullet' and 'failing to escape an illegal organization that kidnapped him for his guts' scenarios that he expected but, oh well. At least it's for a cat.
Another meow cuts him from his thoughts and he whips his head to look at the cat only to meet dark brown eyes staring at him blankly. Said eyes slowly widened and a piercing scream breaks and before Taehyung can clearly register what's happening, his neighbor is babbling with frantic and panicked eyes, leaning over his balcony with an outstretched hand trying to grab his sleeve.
"Oh my god please whatever you're thinking this is not the best way people love you your family loves you imagine your friends, dear lord, imagine your future children that won't be if you do this please don't do it it’s not too late somehow it'll get better do--"
As the man was gushing all his best to convince Taehyung from committing something he isn't actually planning, he takes his opportunity to grab onto the slender arm and jump towards his neighbor's balcony that was really more like a half-jump as his foot slipped a bit when he tried to spring forward.
Now it's the both of them screaming as half of Taehyung dangles from the balcony and the other half desperately clinging on everything of the man he can take hold off.
A minute - that felt like 20- of struggling to pull Taehyung up and over to safety later, their screams died down and panting takes over as they chase their breath and stare at the cat in front of them, unfazed with the whole situation like it didn't just almost caused a young beautiful 22 year old to fall to his death.
Even though Mr. Neighbor doesn't know those facts, he does agree that the stranger is hella beautiful and oh my god, okay, he finally looked up, meeting his eyes and shyly smiling in the most adorable box smile that he had ever seen.
"Let me just get this straight..." Taehyung nods as Hoseok, his neighbor, runs a palm down his face. "You decided to cross to my balcony because of Hope?"
With another brisk nod, Hoseok can just stare, his mouth opening and closing. But whatever he wanted to say was thrown away as a sigh of relief escapes his lips and his shoulders sag.
"Well, I’m just glad you weren't trying to jump."
He smiles awkwardly for a bit before bursting into fits of laughter and Taehyung, totally understanding how Hoseok feels, feels giggles bubble from his stomach and he lets it join Hoseok.
"But please, don't go crossing balconies again." Hoseok speaks again as the laughter dies down, "You can just come over." he blurts out before the very statement sank down on him. Heat dusts over his cheeks as he registers his own words but he smiles and holds his head steady against the urge to bow down in embarrassment.
He feels relieved that Taehyung didn't take it in any way creepy or too forward as he replies back with a smile. "Okay."
After a few chattering, exchanging of numbers, promises of helping in unpacking (Hoseok) and rolling around Hoseok's carpet with Hope (Taehyung), the two men bid each other farewell only to run to the balcony (and pretend they didn't) to chat all over again.
