Chapter Text
Becoming a hero was what Hitoshi had always dreamed of. But when he first applied to U.A., he knew his dream would be hard, if not impossible, to reach. Knowing he'd fail the entrance exam for the Heroics Course, Hitoshi did the next best thing and applied for General Studies.
"With a quirk like yours, do you really expect to become a hero?"
It wasn't the first time people doubted Hitoshi, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. The purple haired student knew all too well of the complaints and insults people would say about his quirk. In fact, Hitoshi found it very difficult to make friends in middle school because of all the rumors about him. When he did make friends, however, they always seemed cautious of him and would tell him often not to use his quirk on them.
Hitoshi grew used to this kind of treatment as he himself understood why people saw him the way they did. A quirk like his really did seem fit for a villain. But even so, Hitoshi wanted to prove them wrong. Ever since those days, Hitoshi vowed to become a hero, one so great that not even the strongest person out there could surpass him...

The Sports Festival had finally come to an end and Hitoshi watched All Might give out the medals to the three winners. He wasn't surprised that all three were from class 1-A, but it did leave a sour taste in his mouth.
"Hmph, with flashy quirks like that, I guess this was to be expected," he muttered.
However, what happened after the Sports Festival did surprise Hitoshi. It happened as soon as he was called to the principal's office one fateful day. As soon as he entered the room, his eyes met with Aizawa. Then, as if he was in some kind of dream, Principal Nedzu said to him:
"Congratulations Shinsou, you've been approved to transfer into the Heroics Department!"
Hitoshi was sure he stopped breathing at that moment. After that day, he would no longer be a Gen Ed. student. The very thought of it thrilled Hitoshi, but made him nervous at the same time. His chance had finally come, and he sure as hell wasn't going to screw it up.
On the first day of his transfer, Hitoshi hardly recognized anybody except for Midoriya and Ojiro. So obviously, Hitoshi decided to try to become friends with Midoriya first, since he was sure Ojiro still wasn't fond of him.
The day surprisingly wasn't all that special, which made Hitoshi a little disappointed. Just regular class lessons and note taking with a little endurance training in between. But what he didn't realize is that Aizawa had made the class this way for a reason. It was just for one day, but Aizawa wanted to make sure Hitoshi was truly comfortable and ready for the real Heroics class. Once he was certain, he could guarantee that tomorrow would be immensely different.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Hitoshi groaned.
"I'm sorry Shinsou, I didn't think you'd be so unlucky on your first day of combat training" Izuku said.
It was only his second day there, but Hitoshi was unlucky enough to be paired against the one and only Katsuki Bakugou for one-on-one combat. And while everyone had their hero costumes on and ready, Hitoshi wouldn't get his until the end of the week. He was at a complete disadvantage here.
"Does this Bakugou guy know about my quirk?"
"Yeah... The whole class knows actually.."
"Well isn't that just great." Hitoshi sighed, "I'm doomed aren't I?"
Unsurprisingly, Hitoshi ended up going to Recovery Girl after training. Izuku went with him and stayed for a while until he had to report back to class. But before he left, he told Hitoshi:
"Once you feel better, I think you should go to the Department of Support, specifically Power Loader's studio."
"What? Why?" Hitoshi managed to say as he laid down on one of the beds.
"Because I think it would be best if you got support items to help you out during training. No offense Shinsou, but your quirk isn't well-suited for physical battles unless it's unknown to your opponent. B-But the choice is really up to you!"
Hitoshi thought for a few moments before he took a good look at the bandages on his arms and torso. He was ashamed to admit it, but Midoriya kind of had a point. He gave the green haired boy an annoyed expression, which caused Izuku to flinch in response.
"Fine, I'll go. But isn't Power Loader only in his studio on Thursdays? Who exactly am I going to have to ask for these items?"
Izuku's face instantly lit up.
"That would be Hatsume! Power Loader has recently allowed her to build support items so long as he looks over them afterwards. She already has a ton of items you can choose from, but if you want, you can ask her to make you something specifically for you!"
"Alright then, I'll probably stop by when everyone heads home for the day. But you should really be heading back to class Midoriya."
"Oh, right! Okay, see you later Shinsou!" But as Izuku reached the door, he paused.
"But, about Hatsume, she's..." Izuku started.
Hitoshi waited for him to continue, but Izuku just gave a sheepish smile and said, "Nevermind! I'm sure you'll be fine!" And he ran off just like that.
Hitoshi found his behavior, questionable, but dismissed it soon after. He decided to just look up at the ceiling until he eventually fell asleep.
When he awoke, he saw the sun was setting from outside the window. He already felt better thanks to his nap, so he got up off the bed and thanked Recovery Girl before heading out the door. Midoriya said it was class Support Studio he should go to, so Hitoshi walked around the school until he finally found the place.
Standing in front of the door, Hitoshi could already feel rumbling coming from inside. A few seconds later, there was a loud crash that sounded like a lot of things falling over. Hitoshi then became a little unsure of this Hatsume person.
"What kind of crap goes on in there?"
Hitoshi decided it was best if he came back here tomorrow. Hopefully Midoriya would come with him so he would had more faith in this place. But as soon as he was turning to head back, the door suddenly opened with the loud voice of a girl accompanying it.
"Hey you, you're Hitoshi Shinsou, right? I've been waiting for you!"
Without any time to think, Hitoshi felt himself being pulled inside by this girl. Everything was spinning around him until he was forcibly stopped by a pair of arms. When his eyes finally came into focus, he stared at two yellow eyes looking back directly at him. That's when it finally clicked.
"You're the crazy girl from the Sports Festival."
"Well I wouldn't say crazy, but I'm glad you recognized me! Was it my adorable babies that made me stand out from the crowd??" Mei was simply bubbling with excitement as she waited for Hitoshi's answer.
"I... guess? Wait, so you're the Hatsume Midoriya said to go to?"
"Well duh! What were you expecting? I'm the very best when it comes to making support items! Speaking of which, I should probably take your measurements now!"
"Wait wha- HEY HOLD ON A MIN--"
But Hitoshi wasn't fast enough to stop Mei from getting her hands on him. She started by feeling his arms and made a comment about how she was surprised he had any muscle at all. Then she stepped behind him and wrapped her arms all over his torso. Hitoshi felt frozen in place as his face started heating up.
Her hands looked for any kind of muscle he had and she even checked his shoulders too. The next thing he knew, Hitoshi was being wrapped up in measuring tape. Mei just gave short 'mhm' sounds as she did this and stepped back once she was done.
"Hmm, not bad Hitoshi! I think I have the perfect suit for you to wear! Ooh but what about your legs? I have a pair of cute babies that I know you'll love! With them, you'll be able to jump stories high in mere seconds!"
Mei then ran to a pile of what Hitoshi considered junk and quickly threw things aside to look for what she specifically had in mind. It only took her a minute or two to pull out something that looked like some kind of exoskeleton, but its hanging wires and overall worn down appearance practically screamed to Hitoshi to stay away from it.
"I am not putting that on."
Mei gave an over dramatic gasp at this.
"Why not?! Do you not like my babies?? I knew I should've worked on this more but I just had so many other ideas to try out! Oh, but how about some rocket powered boots? I think I may have some your size!"
But before Mei could pass by to look through another pile of gadgets, Hitoshi stopped her by walking in her path.
"Look, I don't need rocket powered boots, and I don't need a powered exoskeleton. I came here for one thing only, so do you mind calming down and just listening to what I have to say?"
Mei gave him a thoughtful look for a moment before sighing in defeat. She put her hands on her hips and gave a small smile
"Alright, what did you have in mind?"
And for the first time since he got there, Hitoshi smiled, in relief that is. Mei offered him a seat where he could finally go into specifics on what he was looking for. To put it simply, Hitoshi wanted a pair of gauntlets strong enough to lift heavy objects but also be light enough for him to wear them on his hands.Having the gauntlets emit some kind of attack was also a plus, but Hitoshi said it wasn't necessary if it was too difficult to do. But Mei just laughed.
"Are you kidding! There's practically nothing I can't make with my genius mind! I'll be sure to have these babies ready for you in no time Hitoshi!"
"Thanks, I appreciate this Hatsume. But, will you really just do this for me for free? This is probably going to take a lot of time and materials so I can always--"
"Nuh-uh, nope! I said I'd do this free of charge and I mean it! Besides, once you officially start wearing these babies, you'll be doing me a whole lot of free advertising! So stop wracking your brain over this!"
"Um, okay. Thanks again. I'll come by whenever you ask if you need something from me, just don't pounce on me for measurements like you did earlier."
Mei laughed at this.
"Yeah, sorry about that! I just get really excited when it comes to these kinds of things."
Hitoshi got up from his chair and was about to give Mei a handshake until she gave him a hard slap on the back instead. Hitoshi immediately started rubbing his back afterwards to soothe the pain and he gave Mei a confused and generally pissed off look.
"What the hell was that for??"
"You're way too uptight and serious Hitoshi! Lighten up a little!" Mei laughed as Hitoshi just looked at her as if she grew another head.
"I'm not uptight, I'm normal. And if anything, you have way too much energy for it to be considered natural. It's like you're on caffeine 24/7."
"Well, a lady must keep her secrets!"
"Whatever..."
And then Hitoshi finally made his way to the door. He didn't know why, but he just felt exhausted again. That Hatsume girl was too much to handle after the events that had taken place prior to this afternoon. As Hitoshi walked to the main entrance to the school, he gave a brief look to the direction the studio was in. He then rubbed the back of his neck in a lazy gesture.
"Yup, that girl is really weird. I don't think I'll ever truly get along with someone as insane as her."
Hitoshi sighed as he finally walked back home for the day.
