Sheep

Summary:

"That’s so," Bakugou searches, "excessive." Bakugou closes the textbook, seeing as he had read the same paragraph a few times without registering the words. Kirishima smiled because this meant more attention from him.

Work Text:

Bakugou would tutor Kirishima often in his room. Contrary to popular belief of their peers, Bakugou was the one who approached Kirishima about it first. Kirishima was never one to hold grades in a high esteem, but as anyone would agree, it would be nice to get ahead and just be smarter in general. That being said, the thought of being a little higher in the ranks wasn't quite Kirishima's top priority when Pissy Face Bakugou McBlasty suggested that he should come over to his room and study with him, his mind was totally blank with shock.

They get mutually frustrated a lot. Bakugou is confident in his ability to teach, and so is Kirishima quite frankly, that wasn't where the frustration stemmed from. Kirishima just didn't get a lot of things. It frustrated him because he really did want to get it right, not just for himself, but for Bakugou. It wasn't like the effort was tedious but it gets demoralizing when he thinks about how long it takes to understand something just to pass a test and forget about it forever.

Bakugou gets frustrated because he is perceptive enough to see that it really bums Kirishima out sometimes. He thinks that he's perceptive, but it's mostly due to Kirishima just being expressive and vocal about things. Bakugou likes to twist things in his favor. It gets hard to not see the way Kirishima's eyebrows draw up and together, it gets hard to not notice how many breaks he asks for.

"Hey, do you think we could not do this right now?"

"What do you mean this? Do you mean salvaging your future?" Bakugou droned as he kept his eyes down on the textbook he was reading. There was a bitter laugh, Bakugou didn't have to lift his head to know what kind of face his friend was sporting.

"Yeah," Kirishima scratches the back of his neck during his pause, "I think I know this now, dude. Like, I don't know how much more solid I could possibly get on this subject."

"Why are you lying?"

Kirishima holds in a sigh, "C'mon Bakugou?"

"I don't care, it's your fucking shit grades," Bakugou expects the laugh that comes in response, and he expects the bed on which he sat to shift from Kirishima allowing himself to relax.

"I don't care too much either, but I don't have to because as I said," Kirishima grabs Bakugou by the shoulder, "I am solid." He pushed Bakugou slightly to emphasize each word.

"Solid my ass."

"I'd have to agree."

"If you're going to try and flirt with me, at least make it fucking comprehensible." Kirishima laughed, and Bakugou was lucky enough to see him throw his head back.

"Speaking of, you know, flirting with your solid ass, I was wondering if you would like to come with me to a movie this weekend with some friends." Kirishima turned his head to see Bakugou's response, who was pointedly avoiding his gaze and snorted incredulously.

"Wow, fuck okay, no correlation to flirting. That was such a shitty segway into that, you set it up like you were going to ask me on a date." Bakugou smirked to himself as he sees Kirishima shrug.

"I'm a little nervous about doing that so soon. I think it's close enough, don't you think?" The two of them both felt the air thicken and heat rise to their faces.

"Who's going to be there?" Bakugou mumbled.

"Ah, Kaminari, Ashido, Sero, Jirou, and Tetsu," Kirishima said hesitantly and with caution, knowing that the sheer number of people would turn Bakugou off. He winced when Bakugou made a growling sound deep in his throat. The temperature around them got noticeably higher.

"Consider yourself rejected. Why are you so sickeningly social." Bakugou hated how popular Kirishima was, and he also hated how Kirishima likes everyone back. It was a total waste of time and resources to get close to too many people.

"I don't know man. I just like talking."

"That’s so," Bakugou searches, "excessive." Bakugou closes the textbook, seeing as he had read the same paragraph a few times without registering the words. Kirishima smiled because this meant more attention from him.

"I don't like everyone obviously. Some people are just annoying, you know?" Bakugou opened his mouth to reply, but Kirishima puffed a laugh, "what am I saying, of course you know."

Bakugou's eyebrows furrow and his lip pushes out, "what the fuck ever. To everything you said. To this day I haven't seen a single person fucking batshit crazy enough for you to have anything other than admiration for them."

"Thanks for paying attention," Bakugou rolled his eyes, as it was not his intent to tell Kirishima that he monitors his interactions with other people because he doesn't, but it wasn't something he cared enough about to press on.

"I don't like sheep."

Bakugou finally turns his head, "What the fuck?"

"Um, conformists. Sorry." Kirishima seemed preoccupied, "It's like, how am I supposed to be invested in a generalized group of people? That's what it feels like, talking to someone who is only worth what they hear other people say."

A sense of melancholy settled in Bakugou's stomach. Kirishima continues, "your personality is just your morals added onto all of your experiences mixed together, so when you talk to someone like that, it's jarring to not know what that person is actually about."

Bakugou raised an eyebrow. Kirishima elaborated, "how do you get close to someone who changes their opinion to suit whoever they're with? Like you never know what they're really thinking and you can't just ask because they will just say whatever you want to hear!"

Bakugou nodded, his voice gruff, "Yeah."

"I think," Kirishima rested his head against the wall, "that's why I like you so much?"

Bakugou's face went tight and wrinkled in confused anger, "how could you just say that?"

A frown tugs Kirishima's lips, but he's soon laughing, "see, dude? You're not sparing my feelings one bit here, now are you?"

Bakugou flushes of embarrassment. They're both quiet, but it's a comfortable quiet. "I'll go to the stupid movie."

"Really?" Kirishima practically glowed, "Blasty, I'll buy you anything you want when we're there and we can sit away from everyone else—"

"Slow down, dumb fuck, this isn’t a date—"

"I'm telling everyone that I seduced the shit out of you, man." Bakugou pushed Kirishima off the bed.

"Like fuck you are."

Notes:

this was my first fic for bnha!!! i hope u liked it, i have been neck deep in the show and the manga and i really wanted to write something for it but the character's are so deep? like w/ yamaguchi and tsukishima i have a very strong grasp on who they are i think, but i have no idea what's up with bakugou,,, which is why i hesitated to write this. i'm glad i did though because i really like it and my characterization of bakugou could be a whole lot worse so!!! thank u for reading!!

ps omg the part where kirishima said that he was super solid on the subject was me all week i thought i had these topics /down/ but i single-handedly failed all my classes with a few tests this was a stress write
