Chapter 1: just, relax

Chapter Text

Sometime in March

The house was finally quiet.

The kids have left over an hour ago, and they finally  have their space to do whatever the hell they want in it. Which happens to be lounging on the couch to watch their favorite program together. It was some charade game that always manages to make Yoongi laugh, and that in and of itself is rather impressive considering it's scheduled to play every Monday night.

You see, working at the university is pretty fucking draining. And an even crueler fate is working on Mondays when everyone decides to swarm the school store all day. It's a lethal combination that’s guaranteed to drain him of all energy; especially if their friends come over to 'study" afterward, and then proceed to stay there for the next three hours... It's no wonder Yoongi feels more than a little bit exhausted.

Though, now he's alone with Jin, and everything feels right in the world again.

He's rooting around the refrigerator for some beers when he hears the theme music come on behind him.

Fuck, fuck, fuck " He whispers to himself as he scrambles to push aside an unnecessarily large amount of food that they keep inside their fridge. "Where the fuck do we keep the beers Jin?" He calls out to his roomate. "I can't even find one of 'em in this stupid fuckin mess."

He hears Seokjin heave a sigh from his place on the couch, and Yoongi can't help roll his eyes in response. He doesn't even turn around when he responds, "Did you check the freezer?"

And Yoongi is a touch annoyed at his tone. "Why the hell would they be in the freezer?" He asks, careful to keep his voice low and unassuming, not having the energy to fight over his voice levels.

"Because I put them there. Like 40 minutes ago." He calls out, still facing the telly.

"But..."

He stops himself, it's better not to question it. Instead, he reaches to pull the freezer open, and immediately spots too beers waiting for him.

His brows raise when he sees that they’re not completely fuckin’ frozen or whatever. They’re nice and cool, and he already knows they're gonna be refreshing when he pops them open.

He nudges the freezer door closed and shuffles over to the couch. He's only missed the first two minutes of the show and it's barely getting started. He climbs over Jin's legs resting on the coffee table, and settles himself beside him. He hands over his beer and raises his own up to twist the cap off with his teeth- a skill he acquired at a kegger party freshman year.

"Can you open mine too? I don't feel like using my teeth this time." Jin plainly asks. He looks tired when Yoongi glances at him, his eyes are dull around the edges and his lips are drawn in a slight frown. His entire demeanor screams stress, and it isn't something that sits well with Yoongi.

"Yeah, sure. Give it to me." He hands it to him and Yoongi immediately pops it open first before spitting the cap out to the side.

"There." He says as he gives it back. Seokjin gives a short, "Thanks" before gulping down half the damn thing in one go. Ok, yeah, he's really tired then.

But now that they've settled into the couch together, Yoongi notices that Jin has his knees spread apart languidly, his right hand holds his beer on his thigh comfortably, and his whole body is slouched with one arm resting on the couch behind Yoongi. Fuck it, Yoongi can't help admire how good he looks, even while tired. Though, he knows not to try and start a conversation with him either, despite how open he looks.

So, Yoongi settles himself more firmly against Jin's side and rest his head on his chest. He can hear Seokjin's steady heartbeat thumping against his ear, and for whatever reason, it slowly calms whatever lingering nerves Yoongi's had; it makes him melt further and further into Jin’s side as the minutes go by.

He watches the show with half lidded eyes and hand loosely cupping the beer in his lap. He can't seem to find anything remotely funny this time around, though it's only because he's starting to feel drowsy in Seokjin's warmth.

Jin doesn't say anything either; resolutely watching the screen like he's in a trance or something. They both seem to be using the telly as an excuse to not talk to each other. Which is fine to Yoongi, he knew they both needed the quiet to recharge anyway. And besides, Yoongi is more than relaxed like this. In fact, he thinks it might be a good idea to set his beer down before he accidentally spills it on all of them- couch included.

He picks his heavy head off Jin's chest and leans forward far enough to set his mostly full beer on the coffee table. Leaning back, he brings his knees up with him and huddles underneath Jin's arm pit. He might as well get super comfortable if he's gonna sleep on the couch.

He feels Jin's arm wrap around him more firmly and bring him closer, he feels the sigh Jin heaves when they've both settled in again. A soft smile appears on Yoongi's face at this, and he knows that Jin is finally feeling better. It's the final push for Yoongi to close his eyes shut, and let himself drift. I love you , he thinks to himself, too sleepy to say it out loud. But he thinks Jin knows, he always knows.

As Yoongi drifts off to sleep, Jin leans toward Yoongi and plants a gentle kiss at the crown of his head.

"Sweet dreams, babe." He murmurs, and turns the telly off.

It was the perfect way to end their long, exhausting day.
