Work Text:
Tetsuya had a problem.
When Jun kissed him those weeks ago, sleepy and warm and and wonderful, he’d thought they were finally getting somewhere. He’d thought his patience had paid off and they could move on from there. He’d been so happy.
It wasn’t quite working out that way. At first Jun had laughed it off, insisting he’d been half-asleep and had mistook Tetsuya for a girl. When Tetsuya had rightfully called bullshit, Jun had refused to discuss it. Now he’d taken to avoiding Tetsuya outside class and practice.
Tetsuya was at his wits end. He’d seen Jun that morning. He hadn’t imagined the want, nor the two-handed grip on his shirt, nor the erection that had pressed into his thigh. And he couldn’t believe it had been for some remnant of a dream. It had been all for Tetsuya, he was certain of it.
But Jun was, by far, the most pigheaded person Tetsuya had ever encountered, and getting him to even talk was proving to be a feat beyond Tetsuya’s not inconsiderable resourcefulness.
He was contemplating the relative merits of just leaving it alone for now and waiting for Jun to cool his head while he was picked up his mail from the post office.
There was a small package in the pile and Tetsuya suddenly remembered the movie he’d ordered after catching it on TV by chance. It was a little different from his normal fare, but the historical perspective had been interesting and he’d found himself caught up in the story. He’d been incredibly moved by the lovers’ tragedy...
Tetsuya stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, not even noticing the other pedestrians grumbling and stepping around him.
An idea began to take shape, perfect in its simplicity, and Tetsuya smiled.

He made his move the very next day.
"A movie?" Jun questioned warily. He always seemed a little wary these days, and the loss of their former closeness was one thing Tetsuya truly did regret about all this. "What kind of movie?"
"Historical drama," Tetsuya replied casually.
Jun rolled his eyes. "Of course. I forgot who I was talking to here. Whadaya say Ryou, you up for another flick about the courage and nobility of the ancient samurai?"
Tetsuya froze. Other people were not part of the plan! Luckily, he didn’t have think of an excuse as to why Ryousuke couldn’t join them, which might have made Jun even more suspicious of his intentions.
"Sorry, group study in the library. Which you should be joining," Ryou said pointedly.
"B-but, I’ve already made plans with Tetsuya! Right Tetsu?"
For once, Tetsuya was grateful for Jun’s pathological aversion to studying. "Right," he nodded. I can always make sure he studies later.
"You were thinking something sneaky just now, weren’t you?" Jun accused.
"Of course not."
Ryousuke rolled his eyes. Probably. It was hard to tell.

"So what’s this movie about?" Jun asked, flopping on Tetsuya’s bed. Seidou placed very few restrictions on the movements of students living in the dorms. As long as they were back by curfew they were allowed to leave campus, so it wasn’t exactly uncommon for residents to go home with commuters now and then.
"You’ll see." It wouldn’t do to ruin it beforehand.
He popped the DVD in and shoved Jun’s legs over, making room for himself. He was glad Jun seemed more relaxed.
The beginning of the movie was actually rather gory and the montage of bloodshed captured Jun’s attention easily, as Tetsuya knew it would. Tatsuya, the protagonist, was a laid-back sword for hire who was very good at what he did. The visual effects were impressive. As the movie continued, he was hired by a daimyou and, through a series of events, ended up falling in love with Rukiko, the beautiful, hot-headed fiancee of the daimyou’s sole heir.
When Tetsuya ventured a look at Jun, he found his eyes glued to the small screen. Tetsuya smiled, and turned his attention back to movie.
There was a rather risque scene that had Tetsuya blushing a bit to watch with Jun. As Tatsuya and Rukiko shared a passionate embrace, Jun shifted away a little. At least it appeared Tetsuya wasn’t the only one affected.
A plot was uncovered involving the heir, who had secretly made a deal with his father’s rival. Rukiko begged Tatsuya to run away with her and begin a new life, but Tatsuya would not--could not--betray his employer, and went away to meet the opposing army after one last kiss and a promise that he would return. The climactic battle was stunningly rendered, and Tetsuya found himself completely immersed, just as he had been the first time. Tatsuya slashed gracefully through his enemies, leaving a sea of blood in his wake, until he reached the rival daimyou.
It was just as everything seemed to be winding down, the hero victorious, that he was impaled from behind, in a breathtaking display of cowardice, by Rukiko’s fiance. As the villain gloated, Tatsuya used his last bit of strength to spin fluidly, using his momentum to decapitated his attacker.
As Tatsuya lie on blood-stained snow, weak breaths clouding the air, a voiceover lamented that he wouldn’t be able to keep his promises. It expressed regret that he’d never once told Rukiko how much she meant to him, duty and misplaced guilt staying his tongue. He hoped she knew anyway.
The film closed as his eyelids fell for the last time.
Other than the music accompanying the credits, the room was perfectly quiet. Tetsuya wondered if he could swipe away the tears gathering in the corners of his eyes without being noticed. He hadn’t thought it would move him so much the second time around.
There was a muffled sound from the other end of the bed, and Tetsuya looked over. Jun hadn't made a sound so far, so Tetsuya was certain he’d miscalculated. Jun didn’t like historical dramas as much as he did, after all.
Jun had smashed his face into the pillow and was completely still and silent. Had Tetsuya imagined what he thought he'd heard?
"Jun?" he ventured uncertainly. He scooted over, and reached out to touch Jun’s shoulder.
Jun recoiled violently, and curled up into an even tighter than he had been.
Tetsuya wasn’t letting him off the hook that easily. He used his larger size to muscle Jun onto his back, straddling his hips. "What are you doing?" he demanded.
Jun’s eyes were red-rimmed, face tear-streaked, and his breath was stuttering in little hiccups. He was crying. Really, seriously crying.
Tetsuya sat back, stunned, and allowed it when Jun threw an arm over his face. He’d wanted Jun to be moved and perhaps realize that denying his feelings was foolish. He hadn’t wanted to make him cry.
"Jun, what?" Tetsuya said, feeling lost.
"You’re a real bastard, you know that?" Jun mumbled hoarsely. He revealed one glaring eye. "And not subtle at all. What did you hope to get out of this?"
"Maybe for you to realize what a stubborn idiot you're being?" Tetsuya shot back, stung by his own embarrassment at being seen through so easily.
Jun rubbed his face. "What do you want from me?" he asked tiredly. "You want me to tell you I love you so much it hurts? That I’m so scared of losing you that I’d rather stay friends than risk ruining this?"
"Yeah, actually," Tetsuya said bluntly, not really understanding why that caused Jun to growl and shove at him weakly. Tetsuya caught his hand and held it against his chest. "I want you to talk to me. You’re not a coward, so stop running away. You’ve never let a little risk stop you before."
"This isn’t baseball, Tetsu!"
"You’re right. The stakes are a lot higher in baseball, since there is no possible way I’ll ever let you go once I have you."
Jun let out a soft tch. "Big promises from someone still in high school."
Tetsuya slammed his hands down beside Jun’s head, gratified when his eyes widened a little. "It is a promise! That’s the point. I’ve been patient, waiting for you to get it, because I can afford to be. I plan on spending the rest of our lives making sure you know you’re mine and I’m yours. I love you too, you stubborn fool. So hurry up and get it already."
Jun closed his eyes tightly. "You jerk. No take backs," he said, voice trembling.
Tetsuya couldn’t resist anymore, his elation so great it was making him dizzy. He fell to his elbows, smashing his lips against Jun’s, inelegant and desperate. He was glad when Jun’s arms locked around his back, anchoring them together, because he was afraid that he’d fly away any moment without them.
The kiss eventually gentled into something more languid, and Tetsuya let himself sink into it. He wanted to know everything about how Jun tasted, what the shape of his mouth felt like, whether he kept his eyes open or closed. He wanted everything.
Tetsuya pulled back with a gasp, staring at Jun staring at him. "Stay the night. If you call, Coach will approve an overnight pass." Tetsuya settled back, rocking their hips together hopefully.
Jun hissed. After an eternity of a hesitation, he nodded, very slightly. Tetsuya closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against Jun’s, relief making his throat close.
The wait was finally, finally over.
OMAKE:
He found Miyuki staring out the window in the hallway morosely. Not that most would be able to tell he was morose, probably. Miyuki was a tough nut to crack, but Tetsuya thought he had him figured out.
Curious, Tetsuya ventured over to see what had his successor so down.
The window looked over a first year physical education class. Sawamura was in the thick of a crowd, gesturing hugely and laughing.
Tetsuya looked between the two of them for a moment, frowning, before he finally understood. So it was like that, then. with a burst of inspiration, he twisted his backpack around, so he could retrieve the good luck charm he'd carried with him nearly everywhere for a whole year.
"Miyuki?"
The other boy jumped and spun around, face already closing off. "Captain," he said deferentially.
Tetsuya smirked. "Shouldn't I be calling you that, now?"
Miyuki shrugged. "Old habits."
Tetsuya held out the DVD, and after examining the beat-up, unremarkable case for a moment, Miyuki took it.
"Thanks?"
"Watch it with him. It worked for me," Tetsuya said simply, before wandering off. He only relished the confusion on Miyuki's face for a second, before his thoughts turned in another direction.
He had a hard-head of his own to find.
