Work Text:
Considering how much time Tokoyami and Asui spend together, no one would be particularly surprised if it were revealed that the two of them are dating. In fact, it seems like the most natural thing in the world but, with the peculiar romantic situation of Class 1-A, it would seem more unnatural if it were just the two of them. But the two of them fit into the strange class just as much as anyone else does.
~X~
The two of them haven’t exactly said that they’re dating, but Fumikage doesn’t think that’s necessary, all things considered. Which is just his way of saying that he’s too shy to formally ask, but that she understands well enough. He isn’t very good at bringing up anything of that sort, but Tsuyu is blunt, and when she notices something, she isn’t afraid to point it out.
“You like Midoriya, don’t you?”
“I…”
“The two of you are pretty close. If you wanted to get closer to him, I bet he wouldn’t mind.”
As much as he wants to try and deny it, he knows that there’s no sense in even putting up a token resistance, so he just says, “He always has quite the collection of people following him around.”
“He makes time for all of them. I think he could make some time for you.”
“Maybe.”
“If you didn’t want to talk to him alone, there’s always me.”
There is a pause as he tries to search her face, before he asks, “Do you like Midoriya?”
“I think it might be pretty hard not to,” she replies. “He can be pretty amazing sometimes.”
That’s enough of an answer for him, and though the next question almost feels too direct, it has to be asked. “Do you want to try to join in on whatever it is he has?”
~X~
Tsuyu is at least glad that it was easy as it was, getting Fumikage to admit to his interest in Midoriya. It all seemed pretty obvious, and she was sure from the beginning that she was right, but he can be difficult to read at times, and, for all she knew, he had no interest in that sort of relationship. After all, Midoriya is dating four people now, if Tsuyu’s count is correct, and that’s a rather large group for someone like Fumikage to insert himself into.
But, overall, he seems interested, and so, she decides that the two of them can see what Midoriya has to say on the subject. She’s still got a lot to figure out about other people and friendships and what defines relationships, but she already has a good feeling about not only this, but about others as well. It’s not that she’s specifically setting out to link up their entire class in a relationship, but she thinks that that wouldn’t be such a bad thing, if it did happen.
She asks Midoriya to meet up with her after class, and he doesn’t seem to think much of it as he agrees, and she even mentions that Fumikage will be there as well. When the time finally comes, the two of them wait for him, and she asks Fumikage if he’s sure he wants to go through with this.
“I do,” he replies, somewhat awkwardly. “Thank you for...helping with this.”
“Well, it’s for me too,” is all she says, before Midoriya arrives.
“Hey, guys!” he says with a smile. “What did you want to talk about?”
“Would you like to go out with us sometime?” Tsuyu asks bluntly, and it’s cute, the way Midoriya’s face goes red as the realization dawns on him.
“W-with both of you?”
“Only if you want to,” Fumikage quickly mutters.
“Only if the others are okay with it,” she adds. “We’re just interested in you, but we wouldn’t want to get in the way of that.”
“I...well, I would have to ask them!” he replies. “But I do want to go out with both of you, I mean...that sounds great.”
Things go very smoothly, and Midoriya’s significant others don’t voice any complains, as he tells them later. Tsuyu can only imagine the specific reactions, such as Bakugo claiming to not care either way, but Midoriya doesn’t go into detail, and the three of them end up hanging out over the weekend.
Already, she can feel them falling into a routine, and she likes to watch the awkward way Fumikage and Midoriya handle each other, the way they both get flustered in different ways. She really does like them both, and she likes them together, and she likes being together with the two of them. They hang out with the others he dates as well, and the differences in relationships does not really make anything weird.
But she wasn’t being completely honest when she said that they were only interested in Midoriya; Fumikage may be, but she is a different matter altogether.
~X~
“How was your date?” Ochako asks her one day, referring to a recent outing between just the three of them. She and Tsuyu have grown closer as friends as a result of this, but for Tsuyu, she thinks that means it’s time to see if things can go any further. Though she still has a lot to learn about people and relationships, she’s observed the collection Midoriya keeps, and has observed her own feelings for several of her classmates, and this is just another step in the process.
“It was fun,” she answers simply, before changing the subject altogether. “Ochako, do you want to go out together?”
“Alone?” The other girl looks unsure, as if she wants to assume a deeper meaning, but is afraid to let her thoughts go that far. Tsuyu can’t decide yet if that means what she wants it to mean, so she presses further.
“I like you as well,” she says. “Fumikage only wanted to date Midoriya, but I was always interested in you as well.”
Ochako’s cheeks flush and she looks down. “I don’t know...I mean, I didn’t know what to say...I felt kind of selfish, you know?”
“Selfish?”
“When I started dating Deku and Tenya, it was weird, but kind of natural. We were always together, I mean. Katsuki was way different, but we all liked him, so we went with it, and then Mei invited herself in, and she’s something else, but...it works.”
Tsuyu nods, still not sure where she’s going with this. After all, Midoriya has no issues with everyone that he’s dating, and there’s the other group in their class, also involved in a group relationship. “And?” she asks, prompting her to continue.
“Almost everyone I get close to, I end up dating. You’re such a good friend, but then I started to think I might like you like that, and I didn’t know what to do. Why do I have to make all my friends into...more?” She laughs and shrugs. “I guess it’s kind of silly to think of myself as selfish for that, but I was afraid to see if you liked me.”
Not quite knowing what to say, Tsuyu simply reaches out to take her hands, looking at her with sincerity. “You don’t do that with all of your friends, and you think about their feelings instead of just pursuing them. I don’t really know much about it, but I think that makes it okay.”
“I’m sorry for unloading this all on you now.”
“It’s okay. I’m glad you trust me.”
“I do want to go out with you, by the way!” A brighter smile breaks out across Ochako’s face, and she squeezes Tsuyu’s hand.

“You never mentioned liking her,” says Fumikage later, when the girls bring it to everyone else’s attention.
“I wanted to see where it went first,” replies Tsuyu apologetically, and he chuckles.
“I understand,” he says. “I was only teasing. I’m glad everything has worked out. For both of us.”
“For all of us,” she says, and he nods.
