On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
“Jimin-hyung, did you look outside?” asked two voices in unison. That was the first thing Park Jimin heard the second he walked out of his bedroom in the morning. Taehyung and Jungkook were looking at him excitedly, almost bouncing as they waited for him to answer.
“No, boys, I haven’t looked outside yet, considering I just woke up. But I’m assuming it snowed last night?” They had the dignity to at least turn red as they nodded enthusiastically.
“Jiminie, will you come outside with us?” Taehyung begged. Jimin didn’t really want to go outside with them, as he knew exactly what it would mean, but he couldn’t resist hearing Taehyung beg like that.
“Tae, that’s not very nice. You know that I can’t say no to you when you beg. You really have to stop using that to your advantage,” Jimin scolded, but he knew it was pointless. Taehyung simply smiled.
“Sorry hyung,” he said, not sounding apologetic in the slightest, “but you’ll come outside, right?”
Jimin sighed. “Yes, Taehyung, I’ll come outside.”
Ten minutes later, Jimin was wondering why he’d agreed. Very quickly, Jungkook had started to make himself a snow fort in the yard, building up a pile around him in a circle. He had made tall walls that encircled him completely, smiling as he began to make snowballs and store them behind his barrier. Taehyung had done much of the same, only his snow fort was one tall, wide wall that only curved slightly at the ends. He was more focused on ensuring its width so that he could set up a barricade rather than making sure he was defended from all sides. Jimin sighed internally. Jungkook was going to get past that quickly. Jimin himself wasn’t the most skilled at building snow forts or participating in snowball fights, either. He decided he would try and conscript some help.
“Kookie!” Jimin called out, with no answer. Jungkook was simply laughing as the amount of snowballs behind his wall grew. Jimin had been outside with them enough times to know that the second the maknae decided he had enough ammunition, they would be flying through the air. “Jungkookie!” he tried again, but nothing happened. Jimin noticed Taehyung ducked down as well, now more focused on having a weapon against Jungkook. Jimin sighed, getting to work on his own fort. He had just begun to build upwards when he was hit with a snowball from Jungkook. He should have kept a closer eye on him. Jimin moved a lot faster then, bringing as much snow as he could up into his reach in what was later described as a sad attempt at building a snow fort. On the bright side, Jimin was aware he was failing. It wasn’t long before he called for assistance. “Kookie, can you come help me build my fort?”
Jungkook laughed. “Sorry, hyung! You're on your own!” To emphasize his point, the young man threw a snowball, hitting the eldest in the face.
“The betrayal!” Taehyung shouted with a laugh. “Good luck, hyung!” he added with a smile. Jimin sighed. He had no hope.
Rather quickly, he noticed that there was nothing he could do against the attacks of both Jungkook and Taehyung. Taehyung had managed to amass quite a stock of ammunition behind his borders, and was throwing his snowballs, at Jungkook mostly, with no obvious plan. Occasionally a well-timed snowball would hit Jimin in the back of the neck, immobilizing him as he felt the water trickle down his back. Jimin would shriek whenever he felt them, leaving Taehyung to laugh.
“Sorry?” he called, clearly not meaning it.
“Sure you are, but not as sorry as you will be!” Jimin replied, throwing a snowball back, missing the other boy completely. He sounded a lot more confident than he felt.
Jimin also noticed that Jungkook was a fighter of ultimate strategy. He stayed behind his fort the most, popping up at random to throw snowballs at Taehyung when the older boy was busy with Jimin. Jungkook ignored Jimin mostly, which he was thankful for. He was cold enough already. Jimin was just trying to keep up with the others, rather unsuccessfully, throwing snowballs at random more than anything else.
They continued on their path for quite some time, getting soaked through with the amount of snow they had taken. It was around that time that Jimin observed Taehyung picking up a large amount of snowballs from his stash and slowly making his way from behind his barrier out into the open. Curious, and hopeless at hitting the other, Jimin watched Taehyung as he walked closer to Jungkook’s circle where the younger was crouched down making snowballs. He was just coming up when Taehyung dumped his entire load on the other boy’s head. The game was over.
“Alright,” said a voice from the doorway. Jimin turned to see Yoongi standing, poking his head outside. Jimin guessed that he’d seen Taehyung’s attack. “That's enough.”
“But-” Taehyung started.
“Taehyung, I saw what just happened. Snowball fight is over. And besides, I was going to come get you anyway.” Yoongi paused for effect. “Jin-hyung made cookies and cocoa. We were gonna watch a movie.”
The next thing Jimin heard was a sound of protest that came from Taehyung as Jungkook pushed him into the snow as he ran into the house.
“I guess that's a truce, then?” Jimin asked, needing the reassurance that he wasn't next.
“Yeah!” called Jungkook from inside, coat already off as well as his boots. Jimin laughed quietly to himself as he walked in, Taehyung following him. He loved his bandmates. He smiled at Seokjin as he made his way into the living room after shedding his outside clothes and changing, now clad in comfortable pyjamas with his cocoa as the movie started. Jimin sat himself in the centre of the couch, Taehyung on one side in the same state, Jungkook on the other. Jimin smiled to himself. He was where he belonged.
