Work Text:

The first thing Shouta noticed when he woke up was warmth.

It was a welcome feeling, and he took a moment to just enjoy the sensation. With January and the new year bringing in colder weather and a good helping of snow, it was an all too common occurrence that he’d wake up to a cold bed. But here? He was snug and warm, thanks partially to the thick blanket he felt wrapped around him. But also thanks to the warm body that he was currently curled up against.

He slowly opened his bleary eyes, trying to get his bearings. Thankfully his dry eye decided to be merciful and leave him be for the night. Any kind of peaceful sleep he got would always be ruined by his dry eye when it acted up, especially if his eye drops weren’t immediately nearby.

The room he was in was dark, darker than he had remembered when he had fallen asleep. Faintly he heard a low noise nearby, and in the back of his mind he identified it as the TV turned on with the volume down. He gave it no mind though in favor of paying more attention to the hand that was gently running through his hair. Shouta shifted slightly, raising his head to look up at his boyfriend.

Hizashi smiled down at him, comfortably propped up on a pillow and acting as Shouta’s own pillow. His hand stopped stroking his hair in favor of gently brushing a piece of it out of Shouta’s face. “Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” he chuckled, resuming playing with the other boy’s hair. “Or evening really. You didn’t sleep a whole day, don’t worry.”

Shouta stifled a yawn as he shifted to look around the room, head turning as his eyes fell on the TV. The sound was low, almost fully off, and for a moment he just watched the actors on the screen as his mind tried to catch up after his nap. “I fell asleep during the movie,” he stated, turning back to resume his former cuddled position. He and Hizashi finally had an afternoon free to watch a movie together and he had fallen asleep partway through it. A small pang of guilt settled in his stomach as he bowed his head slightly. “Sorry.”

He heard the other boy give a small laugh, hand never ceasing in playing with his hair. “Aw it’s okay, Shou. You didn’t miss much,” he told him, the familiar nickname calming him slightly. Despite how much he protested him using it at school, in private he couldn’t help but enjoy the fond nicknames he was given. “The story wasn’t that great anyways, super predictable. You even called the plot twist at the end, right down to who was gonna betray them!” Shouta couldn’t help a small snort at the blond’s excited tone, as if he had solved a real mystery.

“It was super obvious from the beginning,” he explained, trying to recall the bits of the movie he had paid attention to before dozing off. “The antagonist had no way of getting their information without inside help, it was obvious there was a traitor that was going to double cross them later. And the fact that the side character just happened to know what was always going on was a dead giveaway.” He couldn’t be bothered to give specific character names; he knew Hizashi knew who he was talking about and on top of that they were so forgettable he couldn’t even remember exactly who was who. It probably wasn’t that important anyways. “It’s not my fault you picked a predictable movie.”

He heard a dramatic sigh from above him and could see Hizashi shaking his head out of the corner of his eye. “Well excuse me for not picking up the subtleties of some B rate movie with bad acting,” he huffed, pseudo annoyance in his voice. From the kiss that was pressed to the top of Shouta’s head he knew he was just being playful. “Should write a review on this or something and put it online. Um yes hello my super smart boyfriend picked the plot apart within the first five minutes the proceeded to fall asleep, zero out of ten score no stars.”

That got a real laugh out of Shouta, just a small one but a genuine one all the same, and he could feel Hizashi’s arm pull him a little closer as he muffled his own laugh. “I am sorry about falling asleep though,” he told him, the feeling of guilt rising up again. “I really did want to watch a movie together. It’s just…” He sighed and closed his eyes. “It’s been a long week.” It was true, there had been no less than 3 tests in different classes that week, not to mention the normal amount of homework on top of training and other responsibilities. He had made it to the weekend before crashing thankfully but not long after that.

“Are you still upset about that?” Hizashi asked. There was no annoyance in his voice this time. “I told you it’s fine! You’ve been looking dead all day, no offense, you needed a nap.” The hand in his hair moved to his chin to tilt his head up, and he opened his eyes to find Hizashi looking down at him with a small smile. “We got to spend time together, that was the important part for me,” he told him, leaning down to press a small kiss to his lips. Even after being together for almost a year Shouta still got that fluttery feeling in his stomach whenever Hizashi was affectionate with him like this. Maybe it stemmed from not having much physical affection in his life growing up, he wasn’t sure. But whatever the reason was he definitely liked receiving it from Hizashi, even if he wasn’t always vocal about it. The other boy just seemed to know.

He pulled away after a moment, unable to get far before Shouta tugged him back closer. One hand gently grabbed the loose shirt the other was wearing while the other went up to cup his cheek, pulling him down again so he could rest their foreheads together. Hizashi grinned, shifting slightly to get comfortable in the new position. “Cute.”

“I’m not.”

“Yes you are.”

“I’m really not.”

“You so are.”

Shouta huffed and frowned (not a pout, Hizashi always said it was a pout but definitely not a pout), opting to close his eyes instead of responding to his boyfriend whose grin had only grown bigger. “If you’re going to be ridiculous then I’m going back to sleep.”

He heard Hizashi laugh and felt him shift slightly; he opened his eyes to watch him remove his glasses and set them on the small table next to the couch. “Guess I could go for a nap too.” He settled back into his spot, a softer smile on his face. “Don’t suppose I’m gonna be able to convince you to move to my bed huh?”

“We’re already here and I’m comfortable,” Shouta replied simply, tugging the thick blanket closer around the two.

“Yeah that’s what I figured.” Hizashi placed one last kiss on his forehead before pulling him closer, resting his chin on the top of his head. Shouta’s eyes slipped closed, already feeling sleep tugging at him..

“Hey, how about we go to the cat café you like for our next date. You’d stay awake for cats.”

“…I probably would.”

“Sounds like a date then.”

“It’s a date.”

“Sweet.”

“Good night Hizashi.”

“G’night Shouta.”
