Getting married.
The concept always seemed so far off, like some distant-future thing that everyone talked about happening, but one that seemed so far out of reach that it almost felt like it would never happen. At least, that’s how it felt to Momo, and even when she and Shoto began dating, even when they got serious after high school, it seemed so far away that, though she knew she wanted to marry him, she never allowed herself to dwell on it. It just seemed like a future that she would never really know.
Even when he proposed, it seemed unreal to her. She was eager to accept it, but even then, the concept of getting married seemed foreign, and, through the flurry of preparing everything and planning it, the big day arrived so soon, while still managing to feel centuries away all the while. And then came that moment, when she stood with him and they performed the ceremony- Western style; he didn’t want anything traditional, and she didn’t blame him- and she realized that the moment had finally come. She was getting married.
And then it was over, in the blink of an eye, and she was married; they were married. She and Shoto, after everything they had been through together, were finally married. The reception passes by in a blur, just the same as the preparation and the ceremony do, but when she and Shoto finally have the chance to be alone together, it finally sinks in that it’s over, that she’s married now.
They’ve been busy since they both took off as Pro Heroes, and it was hard even to take the time needed to plan this wedding, but the two of them have a bit of time off now, both for the wedding and the honeymoon. And that is what comes next; their honeymoon.
Some couples prefer to just spend their honeymoon in, together, and don’t bother with anything special, and at first, they think about doing that. After all, they’re both so busy, so often, that they don’t have a lot of time to just be together, and relax. But, after a few conversations, Shoto discovers that Momo hasn’t done much traveling outside of her family’s vacation homes, and his family was never big on vacations to begin with.
She has seen so little of the world, and even if she insists that she’s happy as long as she’s with him, he sees right through her, and it is decided that they will travel. Money isn’t an issue, not with their backgrounds and success, and they can go anywhere that they want to.
“I’ve only been to Europe once, and we didn’t do a tour or anything like that,” she says, so offhandedly that it might sting those who had never known such extravagant vacations. “And our home in the U.S. was so secluded that it might as not have been there at all. But, then again, when it comes to Asia I’ve never been anywhere outside of Japan…”
Shoto just listens to her as she rattles off continents and locations, letting slip just how much she’s always wanted to do something like this. When he finally has the chance to speak, he says, “We don’t have enough time to go everywhere, but whatever you want to try to fit in, I’m willing.”
“Oh!” she blushes as she realizes just how carried away she’s gotten. “But...don’t you have a preference? I don’t want this to be all about me.”
“I’m not good at planning things,” he replies. “Everything you’ve said already sounds great. I know I kind of left everything with the wedding in your hands too, but if you want to try to plan out the trip and fit in as much as you can, then I'll be perfectly happy with it.”
And that is how she ends up putting together an ideal vacation, choosing a tour of Europe as it seems like the easiest option. She's only seen one country, and hardly any of it, so she goes through tour guides when she has spare time, and contacts travel agencies, until the perfect honeymoon begins to form.
Once the wedding has come to an end, once she's finally gotten married, it's time for her to travel, and to travel with Shoto. Getting married, as it turns out, isn't the most important step, though she will always remember her wedding day as one of the happiest days of her lives.
What's important, she comes to realize as they set out for their honeymoon, is the time spent together before, and, of course, the time that comes after. The trips they go on and the times at home, and everything in between as they try to navigate their lives as busy heroes and a married couple. Getting married is just the landmark that leads to all of those things.
Of course, their honeymoon ends up so packed with things to do that they end up making a lot of memories, and have very little time to relax.
