Most Beloved Suneater

Summary:

Daddy likes mommy the most and mommy likes her work the most, but seven-year-old Tamaki's secret friend only likes Tamaki whom he calls Most Beloved Suneater.

A fanfic about a young Tamaki, seemingly alone to his parent(s) but there are some things he won't tell them. Heavily inspired by the kids book "Most beloved Sister" by Astrid Lindgren.

Notes:

Tamaki was a seemingly lonely child. His mother being away on business trips almost every week and his father being busy both with work and having to take care of the house. Neither did the young boy ever have friends over, he was very shy and often preferred to play on his own. His parents had asked him many times if he wouldn't rather play with his friends than alone, but every time Tamaki just shook his head.

What his parents didn't know was that Tamaki wasn't alone at all. Behind the rose bush in the furthest corner of their garden was a secret hole that only he knew of. Every day he would climb down the ladder standing against the dirt wall into the darkness. Down there was something he hadn’t told anyone about.

Chapter 1: Behind the Rose Bush

Chapter Text

In their hallway right inside the door Tamaki had his own coat hanger. It was small with only four pegs and made of wood, but it hung just at the right height for him to be able to put up is jacket on it. He had also painted it himself, with flowers on the left side and a butterfly as well as his name written with big shaky letters on the right. Of the four pegs he only ever used the two on the right side, leaving room in case someone needed the other pair.

Neatly he hung up his jacket he had just been wearing while his father closed the front door behind them. Tamaki was very excited to tell his dad how he had got praised by the teacher. He knew how busy it was for his father to take care of the house and his son all alone so the young boy hoped that knowing he did good would make him happy.

“Hey Tamaki, I’m going to cook us some dinner. You can tell me about your day when we eat.” His father smiled kindly. Tamaki liked his father a lot, even if he was busy or tired he would always smile so kindly.

When his father moved away into the kitchen unable to see the boy Tamaki hurriedly walked through the house to their small garden. It was nothing impressing, a table and three chairs right outside the door, a small area of grass where his dad would put up a rubber pool during the summer for Tamaki to use, and then the rose bush in the corner. The garden was also surrounded by a low fence. Since the chairs where in plastic they weren’t the most comfortable to sit on without the cushions that was now indented in a wardrobe somewhere. Neither was the pool up since it was February and too cold to take a bath.

Tamaki's destination was the rosebush. Between the fence and the bush there was a tiny gap and since Tamaki was still a kid he was able to squeeze himself in. Here, hidden from the view of any adult was a hole in the ground. Looking down in it, it was too dark to see anything at all.

Carefully the dark haired boy stretched his leg into it searching with his foot for something to put his weight on. When he found the uppermost step of the ladder her started to climb down. The darkness slowly surrounded him, the only light coming from the now tiny hole high above him. Just when he started to doubt that there ever was bottom and an end to the ladder he could hear sounds and voices coming from underneath him. “He is back!” “He is back!” “Someone hurry tell Lemillion!” “He is back.” The voices where really just squeaks, animal sounds. But Tamaki could understand every word of it. He didn’t know why, he just could.

When he finally reached the dirt ground a small circle of squirrels and mole holding a candle greeted him with studying eyes. They had now become completely quiet. After a moment of silence the mole stepped forward and handed him his light. Tamaki had promised his dad that he would never play with fire, but this was not playing but out of necessity. How was he else to find his way in the dark tunnel underground.

He began walking, holding the candle in front of him to light his way. The mole had disappeared to its own way but Tamaki could hear the small rodents following him, walking in a line. Their small paws only making the tiniest sound against the dirt, but as he went further into the tunnel the light sounds occasionally was exchanged with a raspier noise of claws against stone. In the distance he could now see another light, and a weird smell coming from the same place. Was something burning?

The young boy started to walk faster, growing worried. Whatever that smell was it couldn’t be good.

Reaching the ending of the tunnel it led into a big room, the only thing separating the two being a shine with colourful pearls in different sizes and shapes. While the room was big it was sparsely decorated. A big fluffy carpet covering almost the entire floor. Two big couches, very bouncy but also very comfortable to sit in. A bookshelf, mostly containing picture books, or books with simpler texts and stories. The books where always exchanged when Tamaki finished reading them, except his favourites, they were always standing in the bottom right corner, always easy to reach. At the opposite side of the room from Tamaki was a door. There was also a tiny shoe rack right inside the room from the tunnel, it had a picture of sun drawn on a paper right above like a name sign.

While Tamaki was untying his shoes, he had just started to become good at tying them which he was very proud of, when he heard another voice coming from the door. “Suneater!!” If there was one way to describe the voice it was kind, it was friendly, and it was welcoming. Quickly he put away his shoes on the rack and turned around to greet the other child. To his surprise, the other was carrying a tray with something black on it. “Hi Lemillion! What do you have there?” Curiously he walked closer to study the tray which was now obvious for Tamaki the source of the awful smell.

“I tried to make chocolate balls. They are much darker than on the picture, but there is nothing wrong with that right?” Tamaki could barely hold himself from laughter. Seeing the other still smiling kindly but also seeming slightly confused. Whatever the things where on the tray it was not similar to chocolate balls other than the size and shape. How do you even burn chocolate balls? They don’t even go into the oven in the first place.

The reason Tamaki knew this was that he had just learned to bake this specific treat himself. It was another thing he was really proud of. His dad had told him they tasted delicious which made the dark haired boy very happy. He had wished to bring some for his friend to taste as well but he wasn’t allowed to bring food when he went out and played. “I don’t think you should eat them. How about I show you how to do it?” Tamaki smiled kindly and he could see the other boy’s eyes light up in joy. Lemillion was always happy when Tamaki showed him new things, and he always felt happy to teach his friend.

“Would you really do that!?” The excitement was crystal clear in the other boy. Tamaki nodded as an answer and before he had the chance to react the boy had suddenly taken a grip on his arm and dragged him with him through the door. Not forcefully, just very enthusiastically.

This boy was a very close friend to Tamaki, his best friend. He was kind, selfless, funny, and brave. Everything that Tamaki admired really. He had a sweet voice and the kindest smile he had ever seen. He would always go along with whatever Tamaki wanted to do without complaint. Or well, sometimes he would complain but it was in a jokingly way. Lemillion was very good at making jokes, he always made Tamaki laugh.

He was also very outgoing, talking to every single person they met, always greeting every single soul. Sometimes Tamaki would get worried that Lemillion was forgetting about him. But every time the dark haired boy started to think so his friend would always come back, and he would always say:

“You are my best friend. You are my most beloved Suneater.”

Notes:

Thank you for reading the first chapter/prologue!! I hope you liked it so far.
I would like to hear any comments on what you think since this is my first real fanfic I am writing on my own!

I might make some slight changes to this chapter, I don't have anyone to beta-read it for me and the plot itself is not set in stone but I really wanted to get this first part up. I will put any changes in the notes for the next chapter if it's needed.
