Work Text:

Jeongguk lightly traces the veins on Yoongi’s hand with the tip of his finger and Yoongi sucks in a shaky breath.

“Your hands are really pretty, hyung,” Jeongguk confesses reverently in little more than a whisper, eyes following his fingertip along the backside of Yoongi’s hand.

Yoongi fights a shiver and gently pulls his hand away. “Let’s keep practicing, Jeongguk-ah.”

Yoongi plays I Need U on the piano while Jeongguk once again falls into step with his dance. It’s a short performance, but one they have practiced and perfected over and over again. Yoongi watches Jeongguk’s strong and graceful movements, and even though he’s danced alongside him for years now, his breath still catches, causing a momentary lapse in concentration.

Although he’s played the song more times than he could count, his muscle memory does not account for this kind of distraction. “Sorry, Jeongguk-ah. Let’s try it again.”

This time, he plays with his eyes closed and successfully completes the song.

Once they practice a few more times, Jeongguk sits on the floor and stretches. “Hyung, can you keep playing while I stretch?”

Yoongi smiles indulgently, knowing how much Jeongguk loves hearing him play piano. “Sure, Jeongguk-ah.”

He plays a classical piece, then modern and finishes with a track he’s been working on for his mixtape.

“I really like that last song, hyung,” Jeongguk says brightly. “Can you teach it to me?”

Yoongi hums and pats the seat next to him, patiently teaching an enthusiastic Jeongguk while stubbornly ignoring the warmth of Jeongguk’s body seeping into his thigh and side.

Yoongi is in the middle of playing the full song again when Jeongguk blurts, “Hyung, I really like y— how you play piano.” The piano makes an obscene clanking noise as Yoongi’s fingers falter. Yoongi looks into Jeongguk’s large panicked eyes and feels a blush dusting his cheeks.

He clears his throat and mumbles, “That was a good practice. I’m going to the studio. See you later.”

Yoongi’s heart is pounding erratically as he quickly leaves, shutting the door behind him and leans against the wall, his breath still stuttering in his chest. Maybe someday, Jeongguk-ah.

“Hyung, are you going to the store?” Jeongguk asks as he sits cross legged playing video games with Taehyung, eyes never leaving the television screen, hell-bent on beating his hyung, the reigning champion of whatever game they’re playing, Halocraft or some shit.

No, Yoongi inwardly sighs. “Yeah, is there anything you want?”

“Oh! Banana milk please, hyung!” Jeongguk replies, then roars with triumph, “Yeeesss! I beat you!”

Jeongguk dances his terrible victory dance around the room, while Taehyung whines about how he cheated.

Yoongi rolls his eyes and shakes his head, then starts putting on his shoes when Jeongguk pokes his head into the entryway. “You should wear a jacket, hyung. It’s cold out tonight.”

Yoongi looks down at his sweater, shrugging. “I think I’ll be ok—” and Jeongguk is shrugging out of his jacket and wrapping it around Yoongi; it’s too big, too warm and smells like Jeongguk.

Jeongguk stammers, “I like—you look—” but trails off, waving his hand helplessly as he slowly rakes his eyes up and down Yoongi’s fidgety body. Jeongguk’s Adam’s apple bobs as he tries to swallow, but successfully clears his throat and hoarsely says, “I promise I’ll pay you back, hyung,” with a cheeky smile.

Yoongi chuckles, grateful for the break in tension. “Since when have you paid for anything?”

Jeongguk pouts and returns to play the game with Taehyung.

Taehyung calls out, “I’ll make him pay, hyung.”

It sounds like Jeongguk shoving Taehyung as he huffs, “No, you won’t!”

They’re both laughing and Taehyung agrees, “You’re right—oh, we should challenge Jiminie to a game he sucks at and then make him pay as punishment!”

They erupt into snickers as Yoongi leaves the dorm, closing the door on their obnoxious laughter as he walks to the store. Yoongi shakes his head, smiling fondly. Those losers.

When Yoongi returns with the banana milk for Jeongguk as well as other snacks, Jimin is sulking on the couch and hands him a few bills. He shakes his head, rejecting the payment with a smile. He hands out the snacks and Jeongguk pounces on him, readily thanking him, before asking, “Do you want to watch a movie with us, hyung?”

“I, uh”—have a lot of work to do—“sure, Jeongguk-ah,” he answers and Jeongguk beams. Cute.

They share a blanket on the couch with Taehyung and Jimin. Jeongguk settles an arm around Yoongi’s shoulders and pulls him flush to his body; he smells clean, like soap.

“You’re warm, hyung,” Jeongguk murmurs contentedly and Yoongi’s heart squeezes bittersweetly. Maybe this is okay for now, Yoongi tries to placate himself as his body yearns to snuggle into Jeongguk and his fingers itch to hold Jeongguk’s hand. Someday, Yoongi thinks as he basks in the comfort and warmth of their bodies, too close to be considered friends, but never close enough for Yoongi.

Yoongi rubs his eyes then continues squinting at one of the screens in front of him, eyes blurry and tired from working on perfecting a song all day.

Knock. Knock. Yoongi hears a muffled, “Hyung?”

“Come in, Jeongguk-ah,” Yoongi calls through the door, grateful for a small break.

Jeongguk walks in with two iced americanos in hand. He unceremoniously plops down in the chair next to Yoongi and hands him his drink. Yoongi takes a long sip and sighs contentedly.

“What are you working on, hyung?”

“One of my songs for my mixtape,” Yoongi answers, still tired and cranky, but feeling more alert with some caffeine in his system.

“You look old now, hyung. You have little wrinkles right here,” Jeongguk teases as he rubs between Yoongi’s eyebrows. Yoongi softly snorts. Brat.

They both sip their drinks while Jeongguk talks about the music he’s been listening to recently and Yoongi plays a couple samples from his mixtape. It’s relaxed and comfortable and Jeongguk hums along to the beat, pointing out which parts he especially loves.

They’re both looking at the computer screen, still listening to music, when Yoongi feels soft hesitant fingers tickling his neck. Yoongi jolts and his muscles seize up as his mind fixates on Jeongguk’s warm hands kneading his sore muscles. They shouldn’t be doing this, but he’s warm warm warm…

“Relax, hyung,” he murmurs, his breath hot on Yoongi’s ear.

Yoongi closes his eyes, sighs and melts into his touch.

Jeongguk finishes his own drink and reaches over to take a surreptitious sip of Yoongi’s.

“You won’t be able to sleep tonight, Jeongguk-ah,” Yoongi grumbles in warning as Jeongguk continues to massage his neck with one hand.

Jeongguk pauses, then shrugs and takes a sip anyway, and Yoongi clucks his tongue in response.

“Can you help me with a song I’m working on, hyung?”

Pride swells within Yoongi as he answers softly, “Sure, Guk.”

Jeongguk begins singing, his eyes closed and voice beautiful and melodious; Yoongi finds himself lost in his own thoughts, imagining writing songs together, him rapping and producing, while Jeongguk sings, and it feels so natural. He yearns for more. Someday, he thinks to himself as he offers guidance and advice to a determined and eager Jeongguk, who looks at him with such reverence that Yoongi finds it difficult to breathe through the ache blooming in his chest.

Later that night, Seokjin is already sound asleep as Yoongi drags his exhausted body into his soft bed. He closes his eyes and is soon toeing the line between dreaming and wakefulness when he hears someone quietly pad into their room. He groans and turns over.

“Yoongi-hyung?” Jeongguk whines just above a whisper, “Hyung, I can’t sleep.”

Yoongi sighs, then pulls back his covers and pats the spot next to him in bed. When Yoongi quietly grouses about how he knew this would happen, Jeongguk answers by snuggling his back into Yoongi’s chest, humming contentedly, and it feels right. Yoongi rubs soothing circles up and down Jeongguk’s side and hip until he hears his breathing even out. He fights the growing urge to kiss Jeongguk between his shoulder blades and instead lightly nuzzles into Jeongguk’s neck and slips into a dreamless sleep.

Yoongi, Jeongguk and Jimin squeeze into the back seat of the van still sweaty and tired from hours of dance practice. Yoongi feels the heat radiating from Jeongguk’s body and it’s too distracting, so he stares blankly at his phone, attempting to concentrate on the lyrics he’s been writing for a new song. Yoongi has been reading the same line for five minutes and finally gives in to temptation, watching Jeongguk, who is sharing headphones with Jimin, as he enthusiastically whisper yells the lyrics of some trot song, with his eyes closed and eyebrows furrowed. Yoongi rolls his eyes, trying and failing to smother his smile. Adorable.

Yoongi is still chuckling when Jeongguk abruptly drops his hand down on the seat between them. Yoongi involuntarily shudders as their pinkies graze and Jeongguk stops singing, emitting a startled “oh”; first, he looks down at their hands, then up at Yoongi. The air around them is too hot and Yoongi’s breathing is too labored as a delicious shiver runs up his spine and tingles erupt through his body. He pulls his hand back to safety, but Jeongguk chases it and links their pinkies together, watching Yoongi with too many unspoken questions bursting to be asked.

Jeongguk subtly raises his eyebrows. Is this okay, hyung? Yoongi feels lost; there are so many reasons they shouldn’t play with fire, but all he can think is Jeongguk Jeongguk Jeongguk while his body thrums and burns for more. Someday, Jeongguk-ah.

Jeongguk nods his head slightly, smiling his small, private smile and Yoongi turns away, furiously blushing. Although they don’t look at each other again, their pinkies remain tightly linked until they are forced to leave the car.

Yoongi walks into the kitchen searching for a bottle of water to drink on a rare lazy day off. He startles when he sees Jeongguk sitting at the table watching anime on his phone and drinking shots from a bottle of soju.

“Hey, hyung. Do you want some too?” Jeongguk asks, lifting the second unopened bottle in offering.

Soon, they’re both laughing while Jeongguk contorts his face and voice into ridiculous impersonations and Yoongi eggs him on. Although nowhere near intoxicated, the alcohol must have bolstered Jeongguk’s confidence as he bellows, “Jump on my back, hyung!”

Yoongi quickly sobers. “What? No.” What the fuck?

“I’ll give you a piggyback ride,” he giggles, his nose scrunching. “You’re drunk, hyung.”

“I haven’t even had half a bottle of soju. I can walk just fine,” Yoongi retorts.

Jeongguk pleads, his eyes becoming impossibly round and his lip jutting out into an exaggerated pout. Maybe someday Yoongi will have some semblance of resolve and not melt into a fucking puddle, but today is apparently not that day.

“Fine,” he huffs, jumping onto the back of a triumphant and buoyant Jeongguk.

“Hold on tight, hyung!” Jeongguk starts dancing with him on his back and they’re both snorting with laughter as they bounce around toward Yoongi and Seokjin’s shared bedroom.  Then time slows to a standstill as Hoseok rounds the corner and freezes. He slowly raises a judging eyebrow and his lips transform into a nefarious smirk and Yoongi is going to kill Jeongguk.

“What are you two doing?” Hoseok asks, grinning with an evil sparkle in his eye.

Jeongguk stands motionless, still holding onto Yoongi’s thighs, and squeaks out an unintelligible, “Uhhhhh,” which makes them sound like they’re doing something wrong, which they aren’t. Jeongguk starts lowering Yoongi back to the floor when he grips Jeongguk’s neck even tighter and blurts, “He was practicing his squats. I’m his weight. So what?”

Hoseok stares at them for a beat too long then howls in laughter. “Really? Show me.”

Jeongguk begins squatting and Yoongi is again contemplating his life decisions, then he hears Taehyung whine behind them, “Why didn’t you ask me to be your weight, Jeonggukie? I want to be your weight too!”

Yoongi can feel the flush radiating off Jeongguk’s cheeks.

After the interrogation is over and he promises that next time he’ll ask Taehyung to be his exercise partner, he gently lowers Yoongi onto the carpet in his room.

“Hoseok is never going to let me live that down, you know,” Yoongi teases him and Jeongguk covers his face, groaning.

Then he perks up and bites his lower lip, eyes mischievous. “That was actually fun, hyung. What other exercises can we practice?”

/

Hoseok was the first to notice the subtle shift in their relationship. He pulled Yoongi aside and earnestly told him that he was really happy for him and Jeongguk, giving them his full support. Yoongi couldn’t be more grateful for the heartfelt network of support and friendship the Bangtan members have unconditionally extended to them. As Yoongi’s internal dialogue slowly dies down along with the automatic excuses of he’s too young and he’s your bandmate, their lives fit together comfortably, feeling normal and right.

They have officially been together for months and yet Yoongi still feels a thrill and his breath catches when Jeongguk smiles at him. Their I love you’s are woven into simple moments, when they bump their hips together while they’re brushing their teeth in the morning or when they ask about the other’s day, but they are no less meaningful.

It’s early morning, the sky just barely lightening to grey with streaks of gold when Jeongguk joins Yoongi in his bed. Luckily, Seokjin is visiting his family and they have the room to themselves for a couple hours.

They look at each other, smiling shyly and saying quiet good mornings. Yoongi fondly sweeps the hair out of Jeongguk’s eyes; he adores Jeongguk in the morning, sleepy face free of makeup, his skin imperfectly perfect. Jeongguk strokes Yoongi’s cheek with his palm and thumb, leaning down and kissing him.

Yoongi still feels butterflies fluttering around, hitting his ribcage and setting his heart soaring when Jeongguk simply laces their fingers together; or when he caresses Yoongi during their rare private moments, tickling up his sides then kissing all his fingertips, lingering on each one as if it were precious.

They’ve been together for months and yet Yoongi still comes undone when he hears Jeongguk finally sigh his name as Yoongi grazes his neck with ravenous lips and hungry teeth, or when Jeongguk sucks one of his fingertips into his hot mouth, swirling his tongue around the tip as an appetizer.

Soon, Yoongi is on top of Jeongguk, whispering praises into Jeongguk’s ears when he keens and whimpers, right there, hyung. Yoongi’s blood runs hot, nerves screaming and every cell in his body yearning for more as they pull each other impossibly closer, swallowing dangerously loud moans.

They snuggle together, glowing in the aftermath, with Jeongguk nuzzling into Yoongi’s chest and Yoongi pressing soft kisses into his boyfriend’s hair. Yoongi lazily runs his hand up and down Jeongguk’s back, counting his vertebrae.

Jeongguk looks up at him and asks, “Do you have any pictures of Holly I can see, hyung? I miss him.”

Yoongi melts just thinking about when Jeongguk finally met Holly on their weekend trip to his family’s house in Daegu the previous month. He reaches for his phone and Jeongguk swipes through the pictures, lingering on one of Yoongi’s favorites. Jeongguk is petting Holly and his tiny, fluffy dog is curled up, sleeping contentedly on Jeongguk’s lap. Jeongguk and Holly are both so soft and Yoongi feels a swell of love for them that lodges in his throat. He swallows a couple times before softly saying, “I love you, Jeongguk-ah,” into Jeongguk’s hair.

Jeongguk looks up at him shyly, points to the picture and wistfully asks, “Do you think we can ever have this, hyung?”

Yoongi sighs and remains quiet for a long time thinking about the future they may never have the opportunity to build together. He finally looks into Jeongguk’s eyes, honest, uncertain and trusting, and murmurs, “Hopefully someday, Jeongguk-ah.” Jeongguk smiles when Yoongi squeezes his hand, lacing their fingers together and they continue to look through the pictures, both content with their hope of someday.
