Redamancy

Summary:

Redamancy: The act of loving one who loves you; love returned in full

Aizawa has long since hated the media, and hid his face from view when he would go out in public so no one would recognize him. After being with the man he loves, Toshinori, for so long, he decides it's time to make a change.

Part of Aizawa Shouta Week
Day 2: Love

Work Text:

It was always difficult for him, learning to accept the one that he loved was a celebrity where he was more spoken of in whispers.  Few people could ever truly understand what it had been like for Aizawa growing up with a quirk that erased the quirks of others, and the one person who had never given him strange looks (or one of the two he did not count Hizashi who from day one decided they were going to be friends), was Yagi Toshinori.  He had been someone who Aizawa had found himself drawn to since he had started at UA, even if they were only at the school for one year before Toshinori had graduated.  It had been a difficult time for Aizawa; much of his time had been spent figuring out who he was, what he was, but none of the terms seemed to fit what he was.  It was something he had just accepted and pushed aside, he had bigger things to worry about while at UA, namely how most of his class hated his guts.

But that had been years ago, they were both pro-heroes now with reputations all their own.  Aizawa’s was that he was a good hero, great teacher, and hated anything related to the media.  He had been that way since school when he had learned how quickly things spread with things like cellphones and the internet.  He fully believed that the media had no right to peer into the personal lives of heroes, and that it just interfered with their work as heroes. The only reason he even had any form of social media had been because of Hizashi who had not only set it up for him, insisted upon it.  Mostly, it was of his old gray grumpy fat cat Smokey, but he never actually said the cat’s name.

It was Toshinori’s birthday, and Aizawa had been desperate to figure out what a good birthday present was for the man he loved. Normally, he kept his private life completely separate from the hero work he did. But, he figured that there was no better way to show the man he loved, the one who was always patient with him, who tolerated his obsessive need to cook because he did not trust any of his friends to cook. If they did go out, it was to the movies, some place where no one would see or some other bullshit like that.

Toshinori deserved better, and Aizawa fully planed to show him just how much he loved him. He had planned the whole day out, ending with a walk on the beach so long as the weather held out.  After work, it was dinner at a nice restaurant, desserts from one of those little shops he always saw Toshinori glancing at when they would walk together.  Aizawa had ditched his normal baseball cap that would help hide his features from those who could possibly see them. Not that day, his hair was up but that was it.  Normal clothes, not his hero suit.  It honestly felt nice not to be hiding, it felt nice to be sitting and talking with Toshinori, to walk down the street with his arm around the other.

“You remember this spot?” Aizawa asked as they got to the beach, sitting on the wall.  The sun was just a sliver beyond the horizon, the sky painted in shades of blues and purples, the first stars beginning to peak out in the sky.  There was a cool breeze in the hair, and the sounds of other people milling about along the beach and the boardwalk.

“Difficult to forget. You made quiet a scene that night if I do recall,” Toshinori replied with a soft chuckle, his hand resting lightly on Aizawa’s knee. “Had a lot of trouble finding your words.”

Aizawa rolled his eyes, covering Toshinori’s hand with his own.  It had been a trying day that day, one week after Aizawa had graduated and he had met up with Toshinori outside of work.  The mission had caused a lot of the other pros he was working with to get hurt and Aizawa had just started rambling on about things to the point where Toshinori had had to grab his shoulders to get him to stop pacing and talking.  When Toshinori asked him what was wrong, the only thing that Aizawa could think to do was kiss him. Well…there they were, years later and they were still together. They balanced each other out in different ways, were there for each other in the good moments, and in the bad moments. Aizawa was there in the hospital after the battle with All for One had nearly stolen Toshinori’s life, and they had laughed and danced the night away when they attended a reunion for Aizawa’s graduating class at UA.  Toshinori was everything to him. He looked at him, and all he saw was sunlight, Toshinori was the light in his life.

“Worked out didn’t it?” Aizawa said quirking a brow as he looked to him. “I mean here we are how many years later, together, for how many years more do you think Toshinori?” he questioned looking at him out of the corner of his eye. “Because, I’d like it to be forever.”

That was when he pulled the small box from his pocket, and opened it, showing the simple golden band inside.  Nothing flashy, simple, something that embodied the two of them when they were not heroes.  They did not life the life of luxury, and did not need to so long as they had each other.

The answer he got was not one with words, it came in the form of Toshinori taking hold of his face, and pressing a kiss to his lips, light and loving, before he allowed Aizawa to slip the ring onto his finger. It was around that moment that the crowd had noticed and started cheering.

“Shouta…you hate the media..” Toshinori said softly, their foreheads pressed together as Aizawa ran his thumb over the ring.

“Let them stare. Let them see just how much I love you and that I am the luckiest damned man on the planet to be able to spend the rest of my life with you.”
