Fenris left Kirkwall because he can't picture living in a world without Reyna Hawke. Unfortunately, staying out of trouble is something Hawke is incapable of doing. If it wasn't bad enough being on the run, Fenris is plagued by dreams of horrible things and a suspicion that there is something else just as dangerous and terrible waiting for them.
Staying at Hawke's side seems to have strained the only romantic relationship Varric has ever cared about. He writes letters, as he always has, but obtains no response. Brokenhearted, he works on the Tale of the Champion. Unfortunately, when people come looking for Hawke, it is his door they find.
