Work Text:
It was a warm Sunday morning when it happened. They had managed to line up their schedules to share a day off and decided to get some much-needed cleaning done around the apartment.
It wasn’t like the pair were messy people, it’s just that with the two on the rise as heroes, downtime was few and far between. Most days off were spent catching up on sleep or finishing up paperwork. But with a thin sheen of dust covering the apartment, both occupants decided it was time they tackle the mess head-on.
While cleaning could be seen as a chore, Shoto chose not to think of it as such. Something about it was very meditative, the motions so familiar to him he rarely had to think. With a cool breeze filtering in through the window and soft music playing from a speaker, Shoto was content.
Izuku had put on some music before they started, saying that it helped him concentrate. With the go-ahead from Shoto, soft 50’s American jazz began spreading through the house. Izuku seemed a bit embarrassed at first, explaining that All Might had often played this style of music while they were training. Shoto was quick to reassure his boyfriend, who relaxed and began swaying with the music as he worked. It was a wonderful picture of domestic life Shoto was not used to.
Izuku seemed to stop when the song changed, a soft grin on his face as he made his way over to Shoto. Thinking that Izuku was going to give him some new instruction, Shoto stopped and turned to face him.
“Dance with me?” Well. That was unexpected. That was something Shoto loved about Izuku, even after 4 years together, he could still surprise the half and half hero. Izuku could also read Shoto like an open book, no matter how blank he kept his face. So when his boyfriend gave him a reassuring look and pulled him into his arms, Shoto knew his lack of confidence had been spotted.
Izuku didn’t let Shoto’s rigidness stop him; instead, he swayed gently to the music, no real form to the movement. It took a few seconds, but soon Shoto two was moving with the music, simply soaking up the moment.
He was starting to get the appeal of this music, the soft words enhancing the experience. He pulled Izuku closer, resting his arms over his shoulders while Izuku's settled around his waist, head resting against Shoto's shoulder.
It was moments like these that reminded Shoto why he loved Izuku. Sure, as heroes, the two made wonderful partners and always had each other's backs. But, in moments like this, Shoto could be totally vulnerable and he trusted Izuku to not break him. Izuku knew Shoto better than he knew himself and loved him regardless. They say you can't truly love someone until you love yourself, but Shoto knows that isn't true. He loves Izuku so much he forgot what hating himself felt like.
The song soon ended, yet the two stayed in each other's arms, unwilling to let go. They would soon be called back to duty, and the fast tempo of their lives would continue. However, this moment of andante was what the pair needed, and as Shoto kissed Izuku he knew he was exactly where he was supposed to be.
