Benign

Summary:

Izuku gets some important test results.

Work Text:

“Mr Midoriya, your test results have come in,” the doctor says, staring at Izuku over the top of his glasses.

Sat in the doctor’s office in an uncomfortable chair, Izuku holds hands with Ochako, his wife. He tries to look calm outwardly, but inside his heart races and he wants to be sick.

These last two weeks have been hell. Ever since he found a small lump on one of his testicles and Ochako dragged him to see a doctor, he’s had minor surgery and blood tests, and has spent most of his time worrying he might have… cancer.

But he tries to stay calm as he looks at the doctor. “O-Okay. What do they say?”

Ochako squeezes his hand. His heart drums in his ears.

And… the doctor smiles. Wait, smiles?

“It is good news, Mr Midoriya,” the doctor says. “The biopsy confirmed that the lump was benign.”

Izuku and Ochako look at each other.

“That means you don’t have cancer.”

Ochako lets out a strange laugh, and Izuku jumps. She grins and throws her arms around Izuku, hugging him so tightly it’s hard to breathe.

But Izuku just stares straight ahead, still processing the doctor’s words.

Benign…

Don’t have cancer…

Two weeks of fear cramping in his stomach and making his heart race… It starts to dissipate, the hollow space it leaves getting filled with relief.

“Oh, thank God,” Izuku says, letting out a long, slow breath.

“It’s amazing, Deku,” Ochako says, pressing kisses to his face. “I’m so happy.”

Izuku smiles. “Me too.”

The doctor watches the whole scene with a slightly awkward smile on his face, obviously used to hysterical reactions such as this.

And Izuku breathes slowly as Ochako hugs and kisses him, so overwhelmed by sheer relief. He can’t believe how lucky he is.
