Work Text:
namjoon heard the cat before he saw it.
small, quiet mewls coming from an alleyway he was passing by, ones he wouldn’t have noticed if it hadn’t been around 2 am.
all that echoed in the alley was his footsteps and the cat’s cries as he got closer, kneeling down to see the small animal.
he reached out his hand and the cat hissed, seemingly not able to move.
it looked fully grown and it was a pure white colour, with dark brown eyes that looked at namjoon like what the fuck are you doing you stupid human .
“hey,” namjoon whispered, keeping his hand where it was.
“can i help you?” he said, eyes focused on the cat.
it glared at him again, well, as much as a cat could glare, and he smiled at it.
“i’m not going to hurt you, i swear,” namjoon said, and the cat looked at him again, seemingly more trusting.
maybe it was hurt, or maybe it just wanted to eat, either way, namjoon swore that he would take care of it.
he pet the cat and it purred a bit, namjoon deciding to pick it up, transporting it back to his apartment wrapped in his sweater.
placing the cat in the bathroom after arriving in the apartment, he turned on the light and took in the dirty state of the cat.
it’s white fur had chunks of dirt in it and was really dirty otherwise. namjoon sighed. he really didn’t want to have to do this.
“hey, i’m gonna have to give you a bath,” namjoon said. the cat looked at him and mewed as if to say no shit you dumbass.
namjoon sighed, plugged up the sink, and ran the water, turning the water off when it was full and sticking his finger in, determining the temperature was suitable for the cat.
“ok, up we go,” namjoon grabbed the cat under the shoulders and hefted it up, placing it into the sink, where it went without complaint. in fact, it seemed to purr contentedly.
“oh, you like that, do you?” namjoon asked, and put soap on his hands, running them through the cat’s fur and getting it all soaped up, before washing all of the dirt and soap off of the cat.
the cat protested slightly when namjoon wrapped it up with a towel, but was ultimately complacent to whatever namjoon did to it.
he smiled, walking into the living room with the cat, placing it and himself on the couch.
“you know,” he smiled at the cat, “i think i’m gonna call you sugar. cause you’re pure white like sugar and snow is just cheesy as hell.”
the cat meows at him, as if in protest of his decision, but he decides to ignore it, because it is a cat.
he turns away from the cat, grabbing the remote from the armrest and turning back to see a disgruntled, black-clad man with white haired man where the cat had been sitting moments before.
“my name isn’t sugar, it’s yoongi,” the man huffed, meeting namjoon’s frozen stare with a soft glare.
“what the fuck ?”
