Work Text:

It’s been months in the planning. Okuyasu has worked with Tonio, talked and conspired with an amused and thrilled Tomoko, and has had his dad on deck as a taste tester. He’s even gone to the library several times to compare recipes and look up different boxing and wrapping techniques.

But eventually it’s time for the real thing. He’s got the chocolate, he’s got the fillings, and he’s got the molds, so it’s time to get to work. It’s their first Valentine’s Day as an official couple so he wants to make sure he gets this right.

A few months ago, after some very luckily won games of rock, paper, scissors, they agreed on Okuyasu doing Valentine’s Day chocolates, and Josuke being the one to reciprocate on White Day. For a while he had been saving up to just buy a fancy box but had eventually decided that homemade ones would be the way to go. It was more nerve wracking, but also more romantic. And, try as he might to keep up his cool exterior, Okuyasu knows that Josuke is a sucker for all things romantic.

He gets to work melting the chocolate, chatting at his dad who’s come to the kitchen to watch the proceedings. Once it’s properly melted, he splits it into two batches, adding chopped almonds to one and shredded coconut to the other. After that’s stirred in, he carefully pours it into the mold trays that his dad helpfully holds still. One tray is heart shapes and the other is carved with peace sign shapes. Okuyasu had almost shouted when he saw the two next to each other in the kitchen supply store, the forms instantly reminding him of Josuke’s pins.

He taps them carefully on the counter to even off the chocolate and then leaves them to cool. Now he needs to get the box ready.

The inside is lined with dark blue tissue paper which makes for a nice soft resting place for the chocolates. He closes the box after arranging them and neatly wraps it in shiny purple wrapping paper. The last thing to do is tie it off with a gold ribbon that his dad holds a finger on as he ties it. When it’s all done, his dad claps happily and pats him encouragingly on the leg. Okuyasu beams at him, excited about going to school tomorrow.

When the morning arrives, he heads over to Josuke’s house as quick as he can, eager to give him his gift. Josuke barely answers the door before he’s shoving the box at him. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Josuke!” he says, grinning.

“Huh? Oh wow! Jeeze bro, you didn’t have to,” Josuke says, blushing.

“Pssh, yeah I did. I worked my ass off to make these ‘cause I love you so much,” Okuyasu says proudly.

Josuke, if anything, goes redder. “No way, you made these?” he asks, taking the box.

“Sure did! Check ‘em out!” Okuyasu crows, hands crossed proudly over his chest.

Carefully opening the box, Josuke goes speechless for a moment when he sees the shapes inside. “Holy shit, dude,” he says, stunned.

Okuyasu can’t stop grinning. “Ya like ‘em?”

Josuke doesn’t even bother to try one. He just carefully closes the box, before throwing his arms around Okuyasu’s shoulders and kissing him senseless.

With a reaction like that, Okuyasu isn’t even all that bothered to wait for Josuke’s verdict. It’s all the answer he needs anyway.

Notes:

Pfft, what do you mean it's November? Valentine's chocolate fics are a year round cliche fluff possibility.
